We stayed at a big room with balcony. The room and bathroom were clean and comfy. Breakfast was good and selection was big. Staff helpfull and nice.
Great location near the Gran via and plaza espana. 2 metro stations, 2 minutes walking distance.
Will go back again.

Hotel is right in the centre, so perfect for seeing Madrid, but room was very small and dismal and the bed was the hardest I have ever slept on - it was like a board! And the pillows were rock hard too! Added to this, was the fact that they don't use duvet covers, but wrap the duvet in two sheets - not very hygienic! The bathroom was tiny and there was a large chunk missing off the back of my toilet! It was clean but in need of a makeover.
The breakfast was ok, but only hot food was boiled eggs, scrambled eggs and frankfurters, so if you don't like continental breakfast, apart from cornflakes and muesli, you were stuck!
There is no bar in the hotel, so on returning from a hard day's sightseeing, you can't get a drink or coffee. I have to say, that the staff were very helpful, but that was about the "upside" of the hotel. I was just glad I only stayed two nights and wouldn't stay there again!

Room Tip: Apparently rooms facing the street are very noisy, but rooms facing inwards have the noise of the ai...

Stayed in this hotel for 3 nights from 21st - 24th November. Location is all perfect. just next to Gran Via and Plaza Espanya. Metro stations are less than 5 mins walk which gives it good connectivity to the other place on interest in the city.
I stayed here with a group of 20 People. The room allocated to me was quite large spacious and clean. However some other rooms to my colleagues were small in size. So check which rooms rooms are you being allocated.Breakfast was nice with plenty of hot food options. Free internet wifi in rooms was another good point.
The room was although well insulated with double glazing, there was still lots of street noise, specially on friday and saturday evening. it want any issue as we stayed in winter, and had the windows closed. but i believe it might be bit of issue in summer if you openening the windows.
Overall a good hotel which i will consider for my next trip to city as well

This was our first hotel stay in Europe and thank God it was only for one night. The hotel's name should be changed to The Maze. It's impossible to navigate around this hotel, especially when you are carrying luggage, you really need a map. The room was filthy, from the chair, to the carpet, even the bathrooms. We didn't ask to be changed because we literally came in, dropped our bags and left, it wasn't until we returned late at night that we notice where we had landed and it wasn't pretty. The only reason I'm giving them a two star is because their service was very good at the front desk. That is all. Find a different place to stay. Save your money.

Just because you call yourself something doesn't make it true. So when El Coloso calls itself the "**** Ex Coloso," as in the four star Ex Coloso, don't believe them. By way of caveat, I should say, I never would have chosen this place myself- Priceline chose it for me when I requested a four star hotel in Madrid - and I was hoping it would be better than the reviews online indicated. But, the reviews didn't lie. The place is a dive.

In short, this is, without a doubt, the most depressing, dingy, and sad hotel I've ever stayed in. It's true that the location is central - but it turns out c/ Leganitos is pretty depressing (a few strip bars, a few sad grocery stores, a driving school, and a police station!) - so while it's nice to be able to walk to the Prado and the Thyssen, Leganitos itself leaves much to be desired. But I'd be able to overlook all that if the hotel was actually nice.

Unfortunately, there are countless problems with the hotel - most notably: the hotel consists of two buildings. You enter through the main door on c/Leganitos where there is a tiny lobby and a reception desk. But many of the guest rooms are in a second building. Getting to the second building requires taking an elevator from the ground floor to the first floor, walking down endless, dark, depressing, and unmarked hallways to get to a second set of elevators which take you to your room. This second set of elevators is actually in a separate adjacent building. The worst part of that arrangement is that the second building seems to be, at least in part, an apartment building (which is a bit odd - to have hotel guests and apartment dwellers living together), and has its own completely unmonitored entrance and exit -- an entrance which is often left completely open during the day, right in the heart of the city -- thus making it seem far less secure than one would like in a hotel.

Moreover, the hotel has a chronic noise problem - the walls are very, very thin and so sleeping past about 7am is virtually impossible. One thinks the hotel is aware of this because they play classical music all evening that is audible in the guest rooms. The noise problem was made worse when we were there and an orchestral group was staying in the hotel. While I love music, I don't want to hear my neighbor playing the cello at midnight. The only way we were able to get sleep here was to use a white noise app on my Ipad -- it's absolutely ridiculous to have to resort to this in a supposedly four star hotel.

And then there are other problems:
- literally threadbare towels -- I've never seen such thin towels!
- the world's most uncomfortable bed (you can actually feel the mattress springs against your back as you move).
- the housekeepers would never replenish the shampoo (and to give you a sense of just how budget Coloso is, there is no conditioner, no lotion, just shampoo. One small tube. And no tissue box. Just a plastic bag with three tissues.)
- the stained walls next to the bed. It literally looked like someone had been playing ultimate frisbee in the bedroom.
- the mildew stained bathroom tiles; the bathroom grout that is literally stained black with dirt
- the bathroom ceiling which had a missing tile revealing the dusty dirty space above the bathroom.
- the half-bathroom shower door which never closed securely leaving the bathroom floor sopping wet any time we showered
- the sporadic and inconsistent wifi.

One of these things would be forgivable but taken together, this just made for a perfectly awful and shabby place to spend four days.

Do yourself a favor: don't stay here.

Upsides:
. staff's effort in attending all our requests;
. substantial breakfast and with variety;
. very central location;
. subway stations, bus stops and mini-markets within one minute walk;
. wifi always on and with good signal;
. the room was always very tidy when we returned.

Downsides:
. WC not quite clean (large mold stains and water lightly dripped from the ceiling);
. the air conditioning was not working at the time;
. there was only one TV channel with programmes in a language different from Spanish.

All in all, if we return to Madrid we will consider going back to Coloso.
Amazing staff (front desk, at breakfast, cleaning personnel). Thank you!

Room Tip: Rooms from second floor up have more light, because the street is quite narrow.

After reading reviews on T.A. decided we would try this hotel after having stayed around the corner at the Tryp Ambassador last time in Madrid. Location was spot on really central to everything, walking distance to most tourist attractions. Metro just up the road and near to the Madrid sightseeing bus stops. Found the staff to be very good, very helpful and room clean. As we were staying for 5 nights asked if we could have a large room which we got. The hotel is in two parts, in the main part with reception, the rooms have been updated but are small. Just two doors down the street is the older part where we were. The room was huge but basic. Everything you need for a place to sleep. The room was on the street side unfortunately ... NOISE ... from about 5am it was people noise (leaving the disco just down the street?), then around 6-6.30am it was people, vans, cars and motor bikes noise. We put up with it but next time would make sure that we had an inner room. Only other thing which wasn't good was the shower unfortunately the shower head didn't fit into the socket properly and so had to have a "side" shower. Spoke to the desk about it.

Room Tip: Rooms in the old part on street side not good i.e. 520. Inner rooms much better.
