“Great position”
Reviewed 20 December 2013

a great position in the Old City just off of Puerto Sol fronts onto a reasonably quite road. Pro's are its position, large room with twin beds very large bathroom the buffet breakfast was excellent (can't comment on dining) staff seemed efficient and helpful.ambience very nice . Con's: wifi is extra and the hotel's computer was out of action. We had a road frontage room although the road was not busy noise transmission was evident

Room Tip: Front might be noisy for some twin bed rooms are bigger than doubles

Madrid is so beautiful city, but unfortunately my bad luck guided me to this hotel. You can imagine no clothe cleaning service, paid internet in the rooms with high rates, free internet just in the lobby, which means it is your office. I will not recommend any one there. Finally, the food is good and the kitchen people were so nice.
Don't ever choice room 503, this means all the time you will not walk straight in more than 65% of the room, it is attic converted to a room so have a time and imagine it.

Room not clean. Services poor and personnel clueless. Needed light bulb in room and they didn't know where they were until housekeeping comes in tomorrow. Internet room charge too expensive expensive as well as drinks at bar.

We visited Madrid for a work/pleasure trip in September. We booked two rooms at the Hotel Maria Elena Palace on the internet & were happy with the deal we got. Took local bus from airport to city centre, asked a police man for directions & we arrived without any real fuss.. Hotel & staff were all very nice on arrival. First day we did some tourist sight seeing, tour bus & The Palace, all very nice. Madrid is amazing place, but english is not spoken here a much as other Spanish citys. In some places we had to use are limited spanish volcabulary, which was nice.. Food & drinks are also alot cheaper here than the normal tourist hotspots. This hotel is right in the city center, 5 min walk from everthing including lots & lots of shops. We had our room at the front of the Hotel. It was very noisy late at night, because there is a nightclub & other seedy stuff not far away. Apart from that it was a great trip & we will go back as Madrid is a amazing huge city with lots to do, lovely people & great tapas. Ow and lots of shops!!

Room Tip: Very noisy late at night when clubs kick out. Ask for a room at the back

The best thing by far about this hotel is the location. It is very close to Plaza del Sol, but sort of tucked away on a quiet side street, so it's not obnoxiously crowded or loud near the hotel like it is in Plaza del Sol. Walking distance to Plaza Mayor, Royal Palace, and many other places of interest in Madrid. And of course very, very close to the Plaza del Sol metro station.

Breakfast started late - a little annoying when you have a taxi scheduled to pick you up at a certain time so you can catch a flight - but was pretty good. We payed for breakfast ahead of time when we booked the room. Do that if possible, because it was much less than paying for it in the hotel. They were advertising breakfast for 12 euros in the hotel, which I think is WAY too much. We paid about half of that, which I thought was fair for what we got.

Staff was nice enough and those at the front desk speak some English, if you need that.

A little disappointed at the price of WiFi. No free WiFi anywhere in this hotel.

All in all, we had a nice stay. The room was pretty nice, if not the shiniest, newest in the whole world. Bed was comfortable enough and our stay wasn't too expensive.

I recently spent 4 days at the Hotel Maria Elena Palace with my husband and I had a very satisfying stay. The only drawback I could point out is that the room was excessively tiny, but we had booked a budget room through Destinia.com so I don't have too much right to complain.
The breakfast buffet was amazing, with plenty of vegan options for us like soja milk, cereal, toasts, jam, freshly squeezed orange juice, churros & porras, mushrooms, fresh fruit, etc.
Besides, the location can't be better, so I'll surely book the Maria Elena Palace again when I go back to Madrid, which I plan to do real soon.
