“Very good hotel in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 June 2014

The Wellington is well run, clean, with spacious rooms and marvelous water pressure in the showers. Breakfast was quite good. But the best feature is the excellent location near the wonderful Retiro park and in a great neighborhood with many high end stores and restaurants. It is a short walk to the Prado and one block from the Metro. Madrid is a really fun city to visit and this hotel is a good base of operations.

Everything worked fine and the staff was very polite and helpful. The room and the bathroom were spacious. I slept very well in the comfortable bed of the air conditioned and silent bedroom. Staff visited the room twice a day to clean it up and position the curtains. Free wifi.

The location of the hotel is great with easy access to the Buen Retiro Park and Prada. The price for a taxi to and from the airport was fixed at 30 euros and the journey took about 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic.

The Hotel in walking distance to most of Madrid's tourist sites. Rooms are large and well appointed. The hotel has real character not a cookie cutter box hotel. Metro is 1 block away and Hop a Bus stops in front. Breakfast is pronominal but expensive.

This hotel was very beautiful, the communal areas are full of fun rooms hidden behind book cases and mirrors, the only let down was the rooms are a little dated now. Still the amenities provided were definitely 5 star. the shower was tractably powerful and so was the hairdryer. the service was also faultless and and ideal location for business leisure and site seeing.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights while in Madrid. The staff was unfriendly and unhelpful.
For a high end hotel the service was very bad.

My boyfriend and I felt that we were treated poorly because of our age, the majority of guests at the hotel were over 60. For ourselves under 35 we were treated as if we were out of place.

When we asked the concierge for a recommendation for a breakfast spot in an area with shops and people he said no and said down the block is a coffee shop.

The only time we were treated well at this hotel was when my boyfriend spoke Portuguese and pretended he was from Portugal.

I would not recommend anyone young to stay at this hotel.
Madrid overall did not have very friendly or helpful people. At the end of a three week five star euro trip the stay in Madrid made us finally want to go home.

The location of this hotel is a bit of a walk from most big attractions. Bring good walking shoes or prepare to take taxis.

The air conditioning was not the best, luckily it wasn't yet the heat of the summer when we had our stay.

I was hesitating between "very good" and "excellent", as it was not perfect, but on the other hand, they solved everything perfectly, and make me feel perfect….
I have been there 7 nights. Good location (near the wonderful Retiro Park, not far from Prado, Reina Sofia and Thyssen museums, Shoping, grocery stores, restaurants etc. You have the Metro Station 5 minutes from the Hotel, and of course taxi waiting for you on the hotel entry).
Quite palce. SPA sauna not included. Very good breakfast, extraordinary breads!
Very nice and large Rooms.
In my room the A/C had only 2 states: On (highest degree which is noisy) or Off (quite). Thanks to the cold weather outside I could use the second option (off).
There were some constructions which awaked me just when I took a break in the evening (althought most of the time it was quite). After the second time it happaned, they changed my room but it was worther (as the A/C machines was located above my room). Because there was no other free room (of the same rate), they suggested me a very nice suit (no charging), and it was realy quite (and spacious).
So, althought it was not perfect, I think they deserve excellent, as the hotel team gave me "all the dignity"... They justified me all the time, and made their best to solve the problem, and make me satisfied (includiung very nice letter from the manager with a bottle of red wine).

Room Tip: Put attention to A/C

This is a very good Hotel & a good base for a City Break. The rooms are not that spacious but fine & the bathroom was very good. The beds were extremely comfortable & we had good nights sleep. The breakfast was very good with a big choice of different foods, some of the waiters/waitresses were not that friendly, they weren't too happy if you asked for more tea or coffee, but most of them were very helpful.
The bus stop for the tour bus was right outside the hotel, this was very good value for money for getting around the city. There were plenty of good restaurants within walking distance from the hotel.
The only complaint was that the pool didn't open till June 1st, this was apparently in the hotel literature so it was our fault we didn't see it. By British standards it was very warm & would have been lovely to use or sit round the pool, or even have a drink on the terrace, but by Spanish standards it was obviously not hot enough.
Overall a very good place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool.
