“Enjoyable stay”
Reviewed 24 August 2011

We booked through booking.com with confusion over 3 beds, however no problem for hotel who upgraded us on arrival and gave us another room to wait in until our suite was ready. Very good stay, quiet room even at front of hotel due to quadruple glazing. Restaurant has good value lunch menu. Am writing this next to the pool (water was a bit cold!)
Tip-free internet is available on level S-1 and pool area close to hotel (WiFi is charged in rooms)
The hotel is 2 blocks from the Cuzco Metro, convenient for airport with one change at Nuevos Ministerios.

We have returned from a 5 day stay in the hotel and can highly recommend the hotel for its high quality of service, its very efficient and helpful staff and its wonderful breakfasts. My wife's 60th birthday was enhanced by the room upgrade and welcome tray we and our friends were given upon check-in.
The hotel is large and although not new comprises many high quality features throughout. Bedroom comfort levels were also extremely high with spacious storage areas not usually found in business hotels. The postive aspects of a top business and conferencing hotel were evident throughout our stay - no waiting for lifts, always someone around for help, excellent desk and concierge service etc..
In terms of value for money in one of Europe's most fabulous capital cities, the Melia Castilla fully deserves its high ranking and even though it is located at the northern edge of the city access to the centre can be achieved in under 20 minutes using the city's superb metro and railway system.
Exclusive and budget restaurants can be found within walking distance of the hotel but always remember 'when in Rome...' different eating habits and siesta times may confuse
and the main holiday period can cause temporary closure of some establishments.
The one downside to a great city break was the non-appearance of our return transfer taxi which necessitated an anxious call to the UK to sort out the problem - should not be necessary - Bookings.com need to sort their Spanish agents communications out.

Room Tip: If you are honestly celebrating a special event let the hotel know.

Our criteria for Madrid was a "family" room and a pool. Hard to find, so we gambled on Melia Castilla and loved it. My family of four stayed in interconnecting rooms. The checkin was friendly. Our rooms were spacious. The facilities were great, especially the pool. The Concierge desk was always helpful with advice to find the very close laundromat, local barber and supermarket or postcards, stamp and post box. ATM in hotel. It wasn't in the heart of Madrid, but we didn't need it to be. It was close to two Metro lines for quick trip into city for Prado, Sol, Plaza Mayor, etc. And plenty of interesting eating options nearby if you wished. All up, we loved it. Thanks Melia Castilla. My only suggestion would be to keep the pool open longer in summer.

We stayed on the 13th floor with a view overlooking the pool and back of the hotel. The room was quiet, had air-con which was essential in July but the decor was a bit dated. Did not use the pool or on site restaurant. Unfortunately the pool was open from 12 midday to 8pm, which was limiting if out sightseeing or at conference during the day. The coffee bar in the lobby and it's staff were helpful and served good coffee. They serve a very good buffet breakfast (though you should order real coffee separately). On the down side, few staff spoke English, the location was not ideal for sightseeing but as this was a conference venue, the metro was only a short walk away and easily commutable. Taxis are easily available outside the hotel and throughout the city. This was my first visit to Madrid and I would highly recommend it as a wonderful relaxed and walkable city with excellent bars, restaurants and some notable cultural sites! Go soon and stay in the city centre!

clean large rooms with efficient AC nice bathroom , overall luxorious hotel, but nothing to do in the surroundings except that you can reach Real madrid stadium after 20 minutes walk. Though breakfast was very nice, when lunch and dinner were arranged for us as a private group the food quantity and quality were extremely poor.

We travel to Spain every couple of years with friends. The last two trips we stayed at the Melia. I will simply say you just can't do much better. Great hotel, excellent breakfast, and a super location. We really enjoy the places to eat and drink in the local area, and have not had a taxi cab driver that did not know the hotel location in any of our stays. It is walking distance from Real Madrid Stadium. The other positive is the staff, simple the best help in town for a foreigner visiting Spain.

Room Tip: 1311 is the best room we had.....some of the rooms are very large and you can ask for one.

Dear Guest,

First of all, we would like to thank your nice comments through Tripadvisor. It is very important for us to reach our guest´s expectation and, reading your words, we realize that we are working well.

Although, we are located in the business area, you are right when you appreciate our location, as we are really close to the downtown, as we have several buses and a metro station nearby that our guests can used to get to the center in a few minutes.

For the next time, we offer to dine at one of our three restaurants, where you will enjoy from a traditional Spanish paella to the finest oriental cuisine.

We hope to see you soon in Meliá Castilla Hotel and thank you for your time.
