Its a big hotel which could exist anywhere. Impersonal and far from most anything.

I stayed in Melia Castilla with my spouse for 4 days. I was attending a congress at the IFEMA Congress centre which was a bit far but accessible by Metro. The nearest metro station is a 5 minutes walk away.
The room was comfortable and very clean. There was a mini fridge and a safe too. They had a facility for paid high speed internet in the room. House keeping service was good. They had a lovely buffet breakfast with an option for both Buffet and Continental breakfasts.

Overall a good experience

That's how this place is decorated. I'm talking gold leafing and red carpet everywhere. The elevator walls are completely mirrored. It also didn't help that you had to walk through a metal detector each time you re-entered the hotel and there were always cops hanging out in front (I stayed for a week - this was my experience the entire time).

I don't know how this place has been ranked as a 5 star hotel...the rooms are small, the room service options are poor, there are no extra pillows in the room, the staff was stand-offish if not rude, the bathrooms are less than spectacular - my sink dripped all night for the first evening I was there. Perhaps all of this is to prevent you from sleeping too soundly - you have to be on alert to protect yourself from the Tony Montana's who I infer from the metal detector, attempt to bring their "little friends" in all the time.

Unless you enjoy the rush that comes with wondering if your door is about to be broken down by Al Pacino, I'd look elsewhere.

Due to a congress, I had the chance to stay at the Melia Castilla Hotel and was not expecting nothing exciting, however my expections exceeded in many ways. All the meeting facilities, including the great Auditorium they have are just amazing. Allthough the hotel is classi and traditional the staff were just so helpful, from the reception to the concierge desk....and I think, that in this hotel there is always something going on, therefore I sincerely can only recommed this facility for any business travellers....simply a geat experience which I can recommend....

We stayed here for the second time. The staff was charming and attentive. Very clean areas and the rooms were remodeled new. The shower has 3 streams plus massage. The bed was new, plush and luxurious. You have to think twice to get out of the bed in the morning.

The breakfast buffet has everything - highly reccomended. A chef prepares ommelettes to your taste, plus all the cold cuts, chistorra, breads and eggs you can imagine. Fresh sweet orange juice machine always ready.

Near the Cuzco metro station, lots of tapas bars nearby to suit your taste.

Staid with a group of 7 including 1 teen and 1 child. We booked 3 rooms and overall opinion was that all rooms were very comfortable, large and with nice decor. The hotel is really big and despite other reviews we found it very nice regarding the decor. Check in is a bit slow as we had to fill and sign 2 forms. But nothing to justify a big fuss. Staff is very polite but still friendly as expected in a 5 stars. We dined at L'Albufera and found it expensive (40 € / person) considering the quality of the food and service. Melia Castilla is far from downtown (if you consider the distance to Puerta del Sol) but still suitable for us as we were just passing by Madrid. Parking is better on the street as the hotel has a parking but very expensive. The best is the fabulous breakfast! The range of choices from cooked food till fruits, juices, breads, cakes, etc. and the quality is superior. Well above the most of other 5 stars.
* The best: Rooms, breakfast, decor.
* The worst: Restaurant L'Albufera (even the famous paella was very poor), expensive parking.
* Overall: It is a 5 stars!
