“Nice hotel but not in the center.”
Reviewed 10 October 2009

This hotel was very nice and everyone was very friendly. We stayed here a few days before we headed back home. It is further away from the center so it makes it a little inconvenient but the room was very large and nice.

I had read on here that we would get turn down service with Godiva chocolate but we never got any :( However, the breakfast every morning was delicious. There were so many things to choose from so there was something for both of us to enjoy.

We got a very nice deal off of Travelzoo. I dont know if it would have been worth it to stay so far from the center with our short amount of time. However, I will say that it is very close to the metro and it was very easy and convenient to get back to the airport when it was time to go.

It was also a nice plus to have free wifi.

Excellent location for airport -- arrived directly within minutes. Very close to the metro station (2 minutes?) which will get you into the old city, but for many locations you will need to transfer. We never did try the bus system but there is a regular route outside that takes you directly downtown.

General location is generally lifeless but there are some decent restaurants further south, along General Martinez Campos, we walked to the heart of the Malasena district within 20 minutes.

Value rating is accurate at the rate we paid via Hotline ($120USD).

Prices at the hotel are five-star, for sure, but they don't press their services and food on you. Would have loved to try the 2-star Michelin restaurant in the basement but at estimated cost of 300 euros for two, had to pass.

The hotel itself felt like a four star hotel at most. Good but not spectacular facilities. Decent bathroom.

Staff were professional and friendly.

Got a great deal via travelzoo for weekend accomodation including breakfast and free minibar(no alcohol only soft drinks)
The hotel is situated approx 10 minutes from the centre -(metro) of madrid or 1/2 hr walk in a quiet area, there are some resturants but have to go into the centre for more choice.
It is very near the metro and madrids football stadium and business district
The buffet breakfast that was included was very good.and the service from the staff excellent.
Madrid is a fab place to visit just brush up on your spanish before you visit!!
we would definately stay at this hotel again, but at our next visit would prefer to be closer to the center.

Following an email from Travelzoo - we stayed Fri - Sun on a 40% off deal inc Breakfast - and a late (6pm checkout)

On arrival at the airport we took the metro to Gregorio Maranon which is only a couple of minutes walk away - before entering the hotel we were greeted at the door by a very polite member of staff who relieved us of our luggage - the next time we saw it was in our room. The checking in member of staff was efficient, polite and friendly.

There were 2 events being held in Madrid that weekend and the Tourist Information Team within the reception area couldn't have been more helpful if they tried ............. nothing was too much bother

Our room was a good size and at the time of booking we were able to select a preferred pillow type ie therapeutic!!! One negative would be the lack of replacement of the shower gel and shampoo but I have no doubt that had we bothered to ask it would have been replaced daily

The breakfast - buffet style was amazing and as ours was included in our 'deal' it was even more amazing!!!

If ever we returned to Madrid without a doubt we would stay here

The service is excellent. We had contact with the reception and customer support several times and they were very helpful (for example we wanted to rent a car and almost everywhere was fully book, they have kept trying until fund one).

Other than this, I think it is not a 5 star hotel, even if they advertising it as one. The most important issue was the room: small and noisy. We could not get a decent sleep in 3 nights as a child in one of the next rooms was making a lot of noise. The rooms are not sound proof at all, and you can hear crystal clear everything some else is saying on the hallway or in the rooms next to yours! When somebody else is taking a shower in the next room, you know it. You can really try hard to find another 5 star hotel without sound proof rooms.

Also, the hotel does not have a swimming pool, bell boy, etc. The reception area is similar to a 3 star hotel (not even 4), and during the night they close the front door (due to the fact that there is only one person from the staff in the entire hotel), and you need to ring to get into the hotel.

The breakfast is ok, but you could expect from a 5 star hotel to have an egg corner, or prepare your scrambled eggs on the spot with the ingredients you like. Bad luck, Hesperia does not have this, and the only eggs you can find are plain scrambled eggs prepared before in a big tray.

I am not saying that it is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. But when you pay for 5 stars, you expect 5 stars, and Hesperia just isn't.

I really liked the Hesperia. It is easy to get to from the airport (20 mins)being really close to a metro stop and easy to get into the city (10 mins) via the same metro stop. It is in a nice location on a leafy boulevard. The service is first class, The room while not decorated to my taste was really clean and well appointed and quite spacious with an excellent bathroom. The public areas are nice and varied, and it is possible to have a nice quite drink and a cosy environment. The staff were most accomodating without being in your face. Breakfast was excellent and in my case inclusive. Then there was the price which was for a single in a double room incl breakfast and this only came to €93 ( in high season ,mid week in a major city). I will most definitely be back and next time with more people. Well done Hotel Hesperia: Madrid you hit the target bang on.

i travel a fair bit and stay in good hotels all over the world and it was quite a pleasure to be here for four nights from 29th of july. my wife and i arrived from paris with friends on the first leg of our visit to spain and were very glad to have chosen this hotel. everything that we experienced - food (also has a michelin rated restaurant), rooms, amenties, etc was right. the attention received from the front office, room service, concierge, bell desk (pleasing and informative female porter!), etc will be indelible in our memory. i can not imagine visiting madrid again and staying elsewhere...
