Booked the Intercontinental via Expedia on a last minute Easter break to Madrid. I wrote to them asking if they could make sure our time there was memorable and they did not disappoint!
We were relatively budget travelers, but had an amazing room, almost a suite, with a complementary bottle of Cava on ice as we arrived in our room! The bed was bigger than my house!
We asked the concierge if he could get us last minute tickets to see the Real Madrid v Valencia match, and he did everything he could and managed to get us some ;-)
No hidden charges, very good service.
Yes a little out of town, but very close to the Metro, straight into the centre of Madrid, plus Metro almost right on the line to airport for our return
Thank you very much to all at the Intercontinental, our romantic weekend in Madrid was nothing short of amazing, thanks to you

The hotel is fairly modern. A little tired in places, but overall to a soldly high standard.

Upon arriving late, we were given a twin room rather than a single bed. Then moved to a room with a very very loud aircon rattle. Room 3 was a smoking room. Just before going back to the aircon rattle room (with the advise to turn it off and open the door) they discovered that a fourth room was available. It turned out to be tiny - clearly a single person's room. We moved back to the squeeky room the next day after the aircon was repaired.

Over the course of the 4 nights we also had room service walk in unannounced twice. At 4pm and 8am - very strange.

The bar was lovely and huge, but horribly horribly overpriced for a city with fabulous, plentiful and cheap quality drinks.

The room we ended up with was large, clean, plush, with a lovely bathroom.

TV was fine - while we had 10 English news chanels there was no movie channel.

Overall staff were friendly and helpful. Especially concierge and the door staff.

A tip though, get them to empty out the fridge and stock it yourself. It's automated, so if you pick up that power adapter - boom EUR10 goes instantly on your account.

Location is handy to Serrano for shopping, and Chueca which is a great area. It's also on the metro line to Sol and Opera for Old Madrid. And just a 20 min walk down the lovely Castellana to the museum district.

Room Tip: Ensure you get a room with the king bed. All views we had were internal so not great, but the balco...

My family & I just returned from 10 nights at the Intercontinental Madrid. Our holiday was booked through British Air Holidays and we were offered a choice of numerous hotels. After much research our choices were narrowed down to the Westin and the Intercontinental. In what was basically a coin flip we decided to go with the Intercontinental mainly because of the brand reputation.

What a great choice! I have stayed in some of the premier hotels in the U.S. & Europe and have never had the ultimate experience to the level that we experienced in this property.

Every member of the staff, from housekeeping to senior management, showed to us that they had one thing in mind: to make our stay at their hotel the best that it could be and they suceeded!

Special thanks go to the lovely ladies at the Club Intercontinental who endured our neverending tourist questions and were able to recommend the best restaurants for us. A special thanks to Susanna for suggesting the carbonated lemon lime drink that took care of my upset stomach and got me back on the streets of Madrid.

Although some travel guides advise that the Salamanca neighborhood lacks some of the restaurants and amenities found in the old city we found that anything we wanted was within a few blocks walk and that we were well served by two metro stations a block away.

Our trip to Madrid will always be remembered by the kindness and professionalism shown to us by the staff of the Intercontinental.

Not bad, but not necessary good, rather intermediate. Hotel and rooms are nice, a bit out-of-date, but still nice. Personnel is very polite and mostly helpful. Bar was magnificent:)

Hotel needs some renovation and the location is not very convenient if you came to Madrid as a tourist, in general it was fine, but I've seen better, good 4 stars instead of 5.

PS. No English channels on the TV, all in Spanish, keeping in mind, that there are plenty of international guests, I think it should be fixed.

Stayed here in October 2010. The hotel's location is very convenient, especially if you are someone who likes to shop -- the hotel is a short walk from the best shopping area in Madrid and also close to some fabulous dining and bars options. While the concierge was extremely helpful, I would say that the appearace of the hotel and the room were not really a 5-star. The room, while comfortable, looked a bit outdated and needed a facelift.

First class hotel in fabulous location, near the metro...rooms very well decorated and furnishings Eastern - inspired, overlooking the courtyard. Nothing was too much trouble and even though I arrived late, there was a friendly greeting and help taking materials to the room we had booked for the next day where everything was set-up and ready. Whilst this was a business trip - would certainly stay for pleasure next time. The employees were helpful, knowledgeable and the food superb. All went to plan and we had a superb experience from start-to-finish. A role-model for other hotels!!!
