I stayed here for two nights and enjoyed that it was in a quiet area of Madrid. It is very close to public transportation and also only one subway stop away from the line that connects to the airport. Sol is not too far away but you do have to transfer to a different line and usually takes 15 minutes to get there. There is also a stop for the Madrid City tour bus where you can get on and off at various points in the city. As for the room, it is clean and very well kept. The size of the room was also just right. It's not small like most hotels in Europe but was like hotels in the US. There is a fitness room on the second floor of the hotel which is at the end of a hallway. The fitness center is small but good for a quick work out. One drawback of the area is that there isn't much open late night. Overall I would definately stay here again when visiting Madrid.

Having recently booked a trip to Madrid I was amazed to find that the 5* top secret hotel
I booked on Last Minute.com was the Intercontinental. Having read previous reviews from
seasoned travellers I followed the voice of experience & opted for the `club` upgrade on
arrival which entitled us to a free room upgrade, free use of the club lounge & breakfast
included, all for 85 euros per night for the two of us. As the breakfast was 34 euros each
to start, this seemed like a good idea, especially when we opened the door to our sumptious
suite, then tucked in to lashings of free quality cava in the lounge !
Overall the hotel oozed quality from the fixtures & fittings to the welcoming & professional
staff which made our weekend trip perfect, just don`t expect to get in late from a night out
as the lounge closes between 1030 & 11pm.
When first looking for a hotel to stay we were looking at somewhere a bit closer to the
centre ie. Gran Via, but having been I would say that The Intercontinental is ideally situated,
close enough to all the main attractions but not too close to be mobbed, especially if you intend
to tour the city on the open-topped bus which we thought was excellent.
Definitely 5/5 in our view and would recommend to everyone

Room Tip: Upgrade a complete no-brainer !

Our visit to the InterContinental got off to a bumpy start when we were placed in a smoking room without being informed. When we were asked to be moved this was taken care of very quickly. Our new room was unfortunately a twin instead of a double and we also had some issues with the air conditioning. Due to the Copa Del Rey the hotel was packed and they were unable to move us to another room. However, the next day the hotel staff more than made up for these issues by providing us with an upgraded room. They were always helpful and never dismissive of any concerns or queries we had. The food in the hotel was a it pricey for my liking but I understand that comes with the territory when staying in a five star hotel. The building itself is beautiful inside. Taxis are always available outside and the metro is only a couple of minutes walk.

I've stayed in one of the Club rooms during a convention.

Its easy to reach from airport. The lobby is nice but I guess nothing have changed since the establishment. We checked in at the Club floor.

The Club rooms are really large and comfortable. The wifi works without any problems. The desk can be more comfartable for long days stay.

The convention:
I cant recommed the convention and meeting rooms at all.
The huge columns in the middle of the rooms distract the view. The seats are covered by ugly yellow covers and kills your back and hips after half an hour.

I travel to Madrid quite frequently for business and used to stay at another hotel toward the north end of the Castellana. Starting last year, I switched to the intercontinental and wished I had done so years ago! The hotel is conveniently located for business purposes and is easy to get to. The staff is consistently freindly and courteous which is a nice welcome after a long flight or a long day. Rooms are all unique and well appointed. The executive lounge is fantastic and is one of the main benefits of this hotel. The breakfast in the lounge is convenient and very good, and the attached conference room provides a private and comfortable space for meeting with visiting business contacts. All in all this is a fantastic hotel and i will continue to stay here when visiting Madrid.

My husband and I wanted to spend a weekend in Madrid before heading out to Andalucia, Spain. After a long flight the Intercontental was a welcoming oasis. From the moment we arrived we were greated at the door by the curteous doorman and staff. After a quick check-in in the Club Room we were taken to our lovely room that was fully stocked with every amenity possible from toiletries to wonderful bathrobes and slippers. After a long trip or a day of touring the city the comfortable bed with wonderful pillows that included a turndown service at night were just what we needed. Wireless internet service in our room as well as computers, printers, etc. in the clubroom came in handing when we needed to get in touch with family in the States. The lobby and common areas are tastefully decorated. Beautiful center pieces everywhere. The hotel is located close enough to shopping and points of interest by cab or metro, but far away enough from the crowds and noise. Located in an area with tree lined streets close to restaurants and shops and park benches to sit and people watch, my husband and I enjoyed a wonderful evening out for dinner without having to take a cab. The breakfast buffet was delicious as well as having a choice of a delicious made-to-order breakfast. Delicious teas, wines, beverages, cheeses, snacks and desserts greated us every afternoon after a long day. Including the Clubroom in our stay was worth it for us. We would like to thank Susana Gari, Guest Relations Manager, Clubroom and other hotel staff for their undivided attention and for making us feel like we were the only guest in the hotel. We had a wonderful and pleasant experience at the Intercontinental, Madrid. When visiting Madrid, this is where we'll stay.
