“Beautiful hotel with plenty of space”
Reviewed 20 October 2012

My wife and I stayed in this hotel during a trip to Madrid for our 4th anniversary. After starting in Barcelona and moving on to Malaga, we were looking forward to Madrid and we were not disappointed. The hotel was by far the best of the three and was SPACIOUS, something that is lacking in most of the hotels in Europe. We had a beautiful balcony and a very relaxing stay. The staff was extremely helpful throughout. I recommend it highly.

Room Tip: Please sign up for the Priority Club prior to arrival so that you can get free wifi access otherwise...

Overall excellent hotel, service and location. Our room was small , but was a late booking with the hotel full, as there was a conference held there, friends who were also staying had much larger room. Drinks in the hotel are very expensive with a glass of wine at 10 euros and gin at 14 euros, coke/soft drinks and mixers at 8 euros. Short taxi ride to main square, costing between 7-10 euros, although it is walkable but probably a good half an hour walk. Visit to football stadium within a 15 minute walk and local el Cortes ingles . No swimming pool.

Stayed here one night in September 2012.
We would have prefered a location closer to the center of Madrid.
Our room was upgraded as I am a platinum priority club member, but the room was very small.
Staff were not so friendly.
Wouldn't stay there again.

Stayed here for 4 days over the weekend with my wife and daughter. Easy to get to via taxi from the airport (20 mins). Well presented and we got what we asked for quiet adjacent rooms. These were well furnished and of a good size. Excellent selection at breakfast and good service from friendly staff.

Slight issues were coffee not very warm as served from jugs which were not freshly made, better from machines which you could ask for on request at no extra charge. Other downside was the charges for wifi (20 euros per day) and tv (5 euros per day) which I thought was a bit excessive - never been to a hotel befoe which charges for ordinary tv.

Otherwise a convenient location for bus or metro to get around Madrid. Helpful staff including concierge.

Room Tip: Fifth floor around central well was quiet even though there was no view.

The InterContinental was well located just outside of the main (busy) central area of the city, and yet within a minute of the metro station.

I arrived fairly early at the hotel, and a room wasn’t available, but I was welcomed into the Club lounge (along with my colleague) whilst the room was prepared. I had upgraded to the Club level for an Ambassador-discounted rate of 55 Euros at check-in, and it was well worth it. The lounge, located on the first floor of the hotel, offered a comprehensive selection for breakfast, lunch and dinner, with waiter-service drinks and made to order hot dishes at breakfast. The lounge followed the same classical style as the rest of the hotel – very much to my taste (although the room was slightly dated in terms of décor).

My Club room was spacious with a separate hall and sitting area, whilst the bathroom had two sinks, a separate toilet room, walk-in shower and deep bath. The usual Elemis amenities were present, and everything was immaculately clean. My Ambassador gift (a fan) and welcome fruit plate and mineral water were present in the room, and the mineral water was replenished daily. In-room wifi was fast and complimentary to Club guests.

In summary, a very good InterContinental, that could only be improved by a more friendly concierge team!

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Club level.

We stayed in this hotel for a week in September, it was one of those secret rooms offers so we had room only and didn't use any room service or the bar or anything like that. The room was lovely. Very spacious, clean, well decorated, comfy beds, double sinks in the bathroom and the toilet was enclosed with a door within the bathroom.
When we arrived from a day trip on our first day we had a plate of fruit and some water left in our room, the fruit was lovely - just three pieces, but they were sizeable and very tasty. There was also a note from the general manager which I think is a nice touch.
All of the employees that we encountered were very friendly, helpful and polite. I think the only critiscm I have of the hotel is that the tea and coffee was rarely replenished, which is a little annoying especially when there's only one normal tea and the others are herbal. The cutlery and glasses/cups in our room were also not washed. I once left some water in my glass and came back to the glass cover put back over it (which was dirty itself). These are small things in the grand scheme of things. Oh and the mini bar is super stocked and super expensive! (we didn't use it but I know people who take things out then check the price - its an electronic mini bar so dont pick anything up!)
Anyway - loved it! Would def stay again. Location is perfect too.
