“grassy hear…”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 April 2014

In Madrid, always stay in the Palace Hotel down town Castellana boulevard.
This time I had to get to the airport early morning so I tried the Intercontinental up town
.
Receptionist did not look at my eyes, always staring at the computer … very impolite..., poor English ...grassy hear… Very normal hotel but overpriced. This Hotel is everything except an Intercontinental hotel. fortunately the concierge were nice and helped me with the luggage.

Room Tip: not the right hotel in Madrid.....

This was my second stay in Madrid within four weeks. On my first visit I stayed at the Emperador Hotel, and while it was reasonably priced, I wanted to try something a little more upscale. The Intercontinental was a great choice - especially for a business stay. The hotel is located in the center of the city, within walking distance of the Gran Via and El Prado. Some of the best restaurants in Madrid are also within walking distance.

As one might expect there are a lot of business travelers during the week, including lots of business meetings and conferences taking advantage of the hotel facilities. So while the hotel has all of the business amenities, it may seem a little impersonal to other guests. For me it was what I needed. I took advantage of the business center, which included breakfast and snacks. I used it throughout my stay for meetings.

My room was large and comfortable with dark shades (helps with jet lag) and facing the rear of the hotel - so it was extra quiet. Everything was clean and comfortable. The furnishings were appropriate for a grand hotel - comfortable and not too standard. The shower was quite small but there was also a separate tub with a shower spray.

I also had a massage in the fitness center - which was also excellent.

I had a business dinner in the lobby restaurant that was great both in terms of service, wine and cuisine. All in all, the Intercontinental is a great choice for a business trip.

I was in Madrid in the Inter Continental for just 3 days, but I had really good days. I am looking forward to come back again with my family to discover Madrid, such a exciting city! Service and cleanness was great, the breakfast and the dinner was smashing!

Chose the Intercontinental for a long business trip. The location is great in Paseo de Castellana. Walk across the avenue and you can walk to Serrano for shopping and variety of great restaurants. It's a long walk to most attractions or you will need a cab. Nonetheless, don't mind the distance, Madrid is a city where you want to walk everywhere. The rooms are very nice with all practical amenities you might expect, nice bathroom. The breakfast is very good buffet style. The bar service (albeit expensive) and restaurant very good. About the service, excellence in service and quality! The staff are super friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. I wish I had this level of service everywhere I stayed. Congrats to all the staff who made the experience 5 stars. I will make the Intercontinental my hotel of choice for next trips.

This is a business hotel. It's situated in the financial part of town and lacks the little luxuries a top notch tourist hotel would include. Most things came at an extra cost which is fine if it's on a company account - tv packages, wifi, bottles of water in the room etc.
The room itself was large with good air con and we had a view of the main street without too much noise. We were upgraded to a 'Club' room because we had to wait briefly when we checked in and the woman at the desk suggested it would be more comfortable for a 4 night stay and she was right. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was huge with great facilities. We had a seating area and plenty of storage space too.
The restaurant charged prices to rival the elite London hotels but it wasn't up to that standard. Two courses and an alcoholic drink each set us back over 110 euros. Again, fine on a business account, but as a tourist it's best to venture out.
Get a travel card that gives you unlimited metro and bus links. The metro system is clean, quieter than London and reliable. Ten minutes and we were in the heart of the town, no problems.
We enjoyed our stay here, but it just didn't feel like a tourist hotel. Would probably look elsewhere next time, unless in town on business.

Room Tip: Ask for a view of the Paseo de la Castellana and on a high floor to reduce the noise of traffic as t...

Just returned from our 4 night stay at the Intercontinental Hotel in Madrid. The hotel was just perfect for us and was better expected. 10/10

Rooms- we booked the executive rooms : one king size room and the other twin room. Both were spacious with a small table and chair, large writing table and a large mirrors. Both rooms were immaculate and very clean.

Bathrooms - very clean and huge! The toilet and bidet were separated from the bathroom which had a double sink and a separate bath and a separate rain shower.

Location- for us the location was perfect. We wanted piece and quiet and that's what we got. The nearest tube is only 5 mins walk away. Our rooms overlooked the main road which was only noisy on the day Real Madrid beat Barcelona so that was expected otherwise we loved the view. If you are a light sleeper the noise maybe a little too much so best to opt for a room facing the inner courtyard.

There is a bank near to the hotel where you can exchange currency - rate is not so favourable compared to home but it was safe and easy to change.

The local area is very quiet and safe, we walked from the tube late at night and it was never an issue.

There is a Starbucks, sandwich/Deli bar five mins from hotel.

We were on floor 6 two rooms away from the elevator - most of the hotel was very quiet and family oriented.

Breakfast - was vast !! There was everything anyone could possibly want. Good selection of fruit, breads, cakes, meats. Eggs can be made to order which we took advantage of and thoroughly enjoyed.

Staff- very professional and really make your stay here very special. From the porter to reception to breakfast staff everyone was cheerful and friendly and very helpful.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay here, felt very safe and secure and everything was so clean and of a five star standard. Loved it and would stay again.

Would especially like to thank Silvana for arranging our stay for us. Would stay again If we ever visited Madrid again.

Just stayed 4 nights at the Intercontinental in Madrid. Sorry to say it but the hotel is very average and does not live up to the Intercontinental brand. If this was a Holiday Inn and the rates were set accordingly it would make sense. But this is an Intercontinental and rates are set accordingly.
Unfortunately I must say it's pretty poor value.
Got a room at the 6th floor, according to front desk this was supposed to be an "executive room". To be honest I really doubt that. The room was very cramped and small and had a very quirky layout. The room felt a bit dated and not that well maintained, cleanliness was just OK with some severe signs of dust in some places.
The hallway must have been at least 8 square meters of unusable space. Bathroom was tiny and two doors were invading the space in front of the bathtub.
The rest of the room is rather jam packed with furniture so it's not much space to move around. Luckily there is a nice balcony which is rather big so when the weather is nice one can spend some time there. On the plus side was also a very nice bed, comfortable with great pillows (two colleagues had to change rooms though since their beds were so worn out so maybe I was just lucky..). Overall the room was not entirely up to par. When a room costs over 200 Euros a night my expectations are higher.
Breakfast was adequate, most things available that one would expect. Croissants and Iberian ham were very tasty.
The major thing preventing a 2 points review was the staff. Very friendly and helpful.
Especially the doormen and the concierge were very good.
The location of the hotel is also pretty good. Quite a few attractions and many restaurants are withing walking distance. Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor just a short taxi ride away.
Would I stay at the Intercontinental in Madrid again? Most likely not, it's not very good value for money.
