Intur Palacio San Martin

Hotel is pretty charming with old furnitures and appliences ( including an antique but retiered elevator, replaced by a modern one).
Although the funiture and tapestry showing wear and tear, the room was extraordinary clean.
As told by other reviewers, some rooms are facing towards the interiour Yard, which is completly covered by a glass Roof, therefore, these rooms do not have Access to outdoor fresh air. You beeter opt for a room facing towards the street. I had room 409, which is a corner room facing to two different sides (like that).
Warning: The San Martin place in front of the Hotel seems to be busy on warm days and nights, so expect to be exposed to some noise when windows are open. The windoes are equipped with state-of-the-art anti-noise Frames, so there is really no disturbance when they are closed.

BTW: with these Windows, it is provided that the rooms are well heatable during colder periods. I can confirm.

Location is really Close to the most central part of Madrid, couple of steps away from the opera, Placio Real and Placa Centro. The place in front of the Hotel is green, Hosts some terrasses of Restaurants and has very-occassional local traffic.

So, SanMartin Palacio is a real recommendation for your stay in Madrid.

Room Tip: Room 409 is a corner room, facing to the San Martin place.

We wanted a hotel that was very central but very quiet and we got it in this one. We stayed 7 days and found the location great as 2 subway stations Opera and Callao are very close andd subway travel seems the way to go in Madrid. We found our room always very clean and although a bit dated very comfortable. At night we slept very well as there was no noise despite the fact we were in the centre of Madrid.. The place is close to Palacio Reale and next door is a famous monastery. Food is readily available from a wide variety of outlets as is shopping. The staff are all very courteous .

Room Tip: We slept in a room around the inner court yard and this may be why it was so peaceful

Palacio San Martin is an excellent hotel very well located in the centre of Madrid close to Sol , the Palace and 5 minute walk to 3 Metro stations.
We had an excellent room on the 5th floor overlooking the enclosed courtyard in this beautiful building. We would certainly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: corner rooms are larger

After much research in Tripadvisor, we settled on Intur Palacio San Martin for its location and facilities (exercise room). It was easy to get to from the airport, we took the Metro and got off at Callao ( took 2 changes in train lines). The hotel was acouple of hundred yards walk from the plaza at Callao. Check in was smooth and we had three rooms all within proximity of each other. Room was typical European size but sufficient for our luggage and such. Furnishing was Ok, room was clean and we had windows that opened with a tiny balcony overlooking the alleyway separating the hotel from the convent next door (leading to callao) . We had no problems with noise and the bells peeling at 6:30 in the morning was kind of nice. Hotel had a small bar/cafe but we didn't use. We found a nice place for breakfast (churros and chocolate) behind the hotel along the allyway leading to Callao.
The greatest appeal of the hotel is its great location - 10 minutes walk to Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor and shops and restaurants. 20 minutes to the Royal Palace and Cathedral. El Cortes Ingles department store to the left of the hotel entrance - groceries at the lower level and bakery as well.
Hotel staff was pleasant and helpful with restaurant reservations

Room Tip: Ask for external room - windows open and street noise level not too bad (we were there in March when...

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for one night only at the tail end of our trip. The room was extremely comfortable and the staff was courteous and helpful. Location is so important when traveling to a new country and this hotel didn't disappoint. Right in the heart of Madrid, it was within comfortable walking distance to restaurants, cafes and shopping. We would stay here again.

Very well located hotel. Staff were excellent, attentive and helpful. Older style hotel but clean and very quiet despite central location. Large room, comfortable bed and bathroom. I don't usually do hotel breakfast but did here and it was great in quality and variety. Best fresh pineapple I have ever tasted. Restaurants in direct vicinity are a bit average. Head towards the market and past Plaza Mayor to find better ones. I would stay here again

Five minutes walk around the hotel locality in any given direction is enough to give you the feeling that 'this is the place to be'. In the winding narrow streets behind the hotel there's a lot going on — shops, stalls, lots of restaurants, and tapas bars (our favourite was El Labriego, just around the corner). In front of the hotel is a broad sunny plaza for sitting and watching the world go by. We're told that it was originally built in 1886 as the American embassy, and they don't make many mistakes about location, location, and location.
We very much liked the the public areas of the hotel; our spacious and comfortable room; the friendly service, and the splendid breakfast. No complaints on any score. We have no reason to try anywhere else when we come back to Madrid — on the contrary.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony. We did, by e-mail a week prior, and they gave us one.
