“Excellent hotel in prime location with great public transport connections”
Reviewed 2 April 2014

Booked this hotel as a holiday package with British Airways. There is a direct train from T4 Madrid airport and in 30 minutes you arrive a short walk from the hotel. Hotel is shown as 3-star but feels like it is better quality. Comfortable, well-equipped and quiet rooms with good facilities. Breakfast and wireless internet were included in my very good value package.

Room Tip: My room was on 2nd floor facing the Playa but the building is so well sound-proofed that I would not...

Very convenient hotel IF you fly in/out of T4 of Madrid airport. In which case the RENFE Cercanias (Suburban trains) C-1 line goes from the terminal to Piramides station which is under the hotel. Probably not so convenienet if you fly into a different terminal. There are frequent trains from Piramides to Atocha station which is convenient for many of the Madrid attractions. Also there is access to the Piramides Metro station from the Cercanias station. The open-top Tourist buses pass through the Puerta de Toledo which is a short walk away (worth buying the 2 day ticket). The hotel itself was fine. We did get upgraded to a 5th (top) floor room with King Size bed since we had a Holiday Inn loyalty card but suspect that all rooms are the same size. Room faced onto the street but had double double-glazing and was very quiet. Breakfast was included in our deal and that had plenty of variety with excellent fresh fruit. It's not a hotel with many facilities but we enjoyed our 5-night stay.

Stayed a couple of nights with my wife on our first trip to Madrid. Good value hotel with free wifi and fridge in the room. Metro station just outside the front door of the hotel with a 5 minute ride into the centre. Friendly staff, buffet breakfast available and evening meal specials. Supermarket 5 minute walk away and and Irish bar across the roundabout. Recommended. ++++

I stayed here for four night beginning of March and we chose this hotel as it looked great on picturse (as they all do).
It is greatly located by Piramides train station, with direct service to the Airport.
Upon arrival and entering, you can see that it has been recently refurbished, however when getting up to the room, dislikes started.
This hotel has been rebranded to Holiday Inn and by the looks of it, they have done it as cheap as possible - all the old branding has been covered with HI stickers and the only way you know that you are in Holiday Inn is only by the toiletries in the bathroom, even the reception area has a pile of certificates on the wall with their old name.
The rooms are very tired upon close inspection and room was used as storage for two fold out beds, which did not give a great impression.
Skirting boards were loose with nails sticking out, which is not great when travelling with kids and when it comes to caring of the property, you can see that not much of that is not happening with dusty mirrors and the guest directory scribbled all over and with an old Priority Club sign-up form where someone else's details were already filled in.
Being a regular traveller within Holiday Inn and Expresses, maybe I'm just expecting too much from the brand, however things got a tad more worrying.
On our second night, my room key stopped working and when going to get this replaced, the receptionist, instead of asking me to confirm the name on the booking, gave me a new key without doing so, which rings the alarms of the safety of the hotel.
Hotel has a free WiFi connection, which is extremely slow, with Google search taking 20 seconds to load up and some every day apps on my phone were blocked by the provider.
The bar downstairs has great service with surprisingly low prices and with a tiny bit better WiFi connection.
Anyways, It would be a great hotel if they would improve on staff training with regards to security , change their WiFi provider, have more thorough housekeeping checks and impose a lot of TLC.. but until then - definitely not up to Holiday Inn standards.

Just returned from a 4 night stay and was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. I did not eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the food so this review will comment on the front desk service, room and location only.

Check in/out and other service provided by the front desk was very good. Since their isn't a concierge at the hotel the front desk people were very knowledgeable about the area in terms of tourism and restaurants and more than happy to assist. All their recommendations were good. check in/out was up to standard with no problems.

Location: Absolutely perfect in my opinion. The property is a 20 minute walk to the center of town but the best thing is that it is no more than 30 steps outside the front door to the Metro and Renfe train station as well as a bus stop. Taking the C1 Renfe train from Barajas airport T4 was a breeze and cheap. Hopping on the Piramedes Metro station took us everywhere we wanted to go. The hotel is on a busy street but had double windows that completely soundproofed our room. The location is in a neighborhood type of place so is actually a pleasant reprieve from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Grocery stores and local restaurants in the area were all within a 5 minute walk.

Room: As an IHG Platinum member I was upgraded to a two room suite so will comment on that. Room 105 gave an appearance of a doctor's waiting office as the front room had 8 padded chairs lined up on the walls with a table in the middle. We both had to laugh about this when we first walked in. With a little furniture rearranging we made it look a bit more homey though. The queen sized bed in the separate bedroom was very comfortable and provided good nights of sleep. The bathroom was well stocked with amenities with a marble sink, toilet, bidet and combination tub/shower. TVs all had multi lingual stations as well. The only problem with 105 is that there was a fair amount of noise filtering in from the lobby and bar area on the floor below.

All in all, from we used the hotel for, I would say it is on the top end of Holiday Inn properties.

Upon landing into Madrid's airport, we took the Renfe train to the Piramides station. Super easy even if you don't speak Spanish. This is much cheaper than the metro (also attached to the airport) b/c there is a fee just because it is connected to the airport. Get out of the metro/train stop and you are at the hotel. Very convenient. We arrived about 10 am local time and the front desk attendant checked us in right away. We were upgraded to a corner room, which was much larger with a view. There is not a pool or gym here and breakfast is not cheap. The hotel is pretty cheap for the low season if you do advanced purchase. It is a 10 minute walk from the Atocha train station which connects Madrid in terms of buses/trains/metro... and another 10 minute walk to the Prado Museum area. A block away is a great grocery store. The front desk speaks pretty good English. Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel if you were on a budget, but wanted to enjoy Madrid and all of its glory!

Room Tip: Ask for a corner room

We recently spent two nights at the Holiday Inn Piramides. Essentially it is a standard Holiday Inn, no frills or fuss but clean and comfortable. Our room was a good size with all the essential amenities. The staff were helpful and spoke excellent English. We arrived very late and were greeted very warmly, as well as given options of where we could go to dine. The breakfast is basic, not a large variety but enough to fuel you for the day ahead. Although it is a little out of the city, it is easy to walk to all the main attractions from the hotel and the connection to the airport is literally at your doorstep. Good value for money and an enjoyable stay in this lovely city.
