“Curate's Egg of an hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

Some of the public areas of this hotel are very nice and worthy of the four star rating. The breakfast was also very good, with a wide variety of both cooked and cold choices. At the time of our visit (May 2014) refurbishment work was taking place in the reception areas to upgrade the current dated fascias - a work in progress. However, the rooms are heavily in need of some TLC and substantial refurbishment. It is clear that some of the fittings and fixtures, particularly in the bathroom have been in use for years and have been patched up and mended, not very expertly, over and over again. Mis-matched accessories e.g. pink toilet with a white seat; tiles which have been broken and filled in with a Polycell type product; a bathroom door which should have been replaced years ago. Having said that, everything was clean and functional, just looking a bit sad.
Staff were brilliant and uber-helpful and we had a very pleasant stay. As other reviews state, walls are not very well insulated against noise from other rooms. It really is in a very good location for exploring and was very good value all things taken into consideration. If you get a good price, go for it.

I guess the location is the only thing that is very good about this hotel. It says it has 4 stars, but I would rather say 3. The breakfast is ok, the good thing is that the breakfast room is open for an extended period of time.
We were here with a group to run the marathon in Madrid, and we got a breakfast package on the morning of the race, since we had to get up early. Unfortunately, this package was nothing for a runner who will run 42 km a little later. Shame, the hotel could have scored big points on making a good runner's breakfast that morning.
The location is good, right around the corner of Gran Vía, with a metro station very close.
All in all, I don't think I will go back to this hotel if I go back to Madrid.

Room Tip: There are rooms that have a 'view' on the inside of the hotel, which means you just look out...

We just got back from a 7 nights stay at this very centrally hotel in Madrid just right in a side street in Gran Via and in walking distance to many major places of Madrid .. We was given a nice room in 4'th floor with a window facing Gran Via . Hotel staff was so nice and friendly and most of them speak and understand English language. Hotel Buffett Breakfast was great one of the best ever we had among all the hotels we have stayed . We had a great 7 nights stay. Wonder how some do complain in their reviews. I belive some think they are buying the hotel not booking a room for few days . Rooms was done daily and room always was spotless clean .For those looking for a very cetraly hotel this is the hotel for them .Metro underground close all is close.Nice walking distance to Plaza Espania, Plaza De Mayor,Plaza Oriente and Puerto Del Sol.Pubs and restaurants are all around the area .. I booked this hotel for a bargain Price trough Travel Republic ..

Older hotel that has seen better times ... would need to replace the carpets in the rooms, but otherwise very well-kept, clean, comfortable beds. Location of the hotel is excellent to explore the city (we went to see especially the Prado and other museums). Breakfast was good, although the breakfast room was full (youth from the USA). Staff very friendly and helpful. Our room had a window into the alley where were nightclubs, but there was almost no noise. For a short stay it is a very good hotel that is not very expensive.

The hotel provided everything that could be expected and more at the very good price. The staff were helpful, the breakfast good and the rooms clean and properly serviced. At a few steps from the Plaza de Espana and its Metro at the end of the Gran Via, the hotel could not be better placed. The side street is gently seedy at night - but not threatening, with the local Police station as a protection.

Room Tip: Went there twice - the room with the terrace was the same price as the one without - ask.

The Mayorazgo was so central: Just a block off the Gran Via, and super close to Puerta del Sol. The staff was excellent! This may be typical in Madrid, but the free wifi in the room (not just the lobby) was so convenient.
The only downfall was the noise. Because it was so central, the Madrid nightlife was not missed!

Excellent location, in the middle of all the tourist attractions. For example the Royal Palace, Puerta de Alcala, Plaza de Espana, Plaza Mayor, Museo del Prado, and all the shopping stores, bars, and restaurants.
