This is an excellent hotel in a great location just 2 blocks - 5 minutes from Placa del Sol! It is a half block from Placa Calleo. It is on a quieter street away from the noise of the 2 Placas but still has quite a few restaurants by it to chose from (including the Lizarran Restaurant/Bar which we really liked!) The hotel has been recently updated with a fresh new look. The hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. I negotiated a reduced rate with the director (Xavier) for a Rick Steves rate including breakfast. (Buy Rick Steves book on Spain and follow his directions which are excellent!) We really lucked out when we got there as Xavier was at the desk and remembered my email negotiations and was very good to me to upgrade our standard reservation to a Premier room! Don't expect an upgrade but it was low season so we were Very Lucky! We had a very nice room (424) facing the street which we did not find noisy as we were on the 4th floor. Our room had twin beds pushed together, nice reading lights at the sides of the bed, desk, minibar, safe, large closet with 3 small shelves below the safe. The bathroom was all in glass including the interior wall and door. There was a hand held shower and a wonderful Large overhead shower with 200 holes! There was a vanity with lots of free toiletries, a hair dryer with a diffuser, 2 fluffy housecoats and slippers and a glass bench which we used for putting all of our toiletries on. Xavier gave us a city map and showed us where the hotel and Placa Callao and Placa Del Sol were and helped us get oriented to where we were in Madrid. The included breakfast was excellent! and a Great Value! I would highly recommend it to start your day! It included eggs, bacon, eggs benedict, ham off large hip bone (very good!) different meats and cheeses; fruit station with strawberries, oranges, pineapples, kiwi, grapefruit, mellons, bananas, and apples plus different fruit juices. There were different breads, buns and dessert pastries, crossants, 2 custard loaves and different yogurts! HUGH buffet! Excellent! All of the staff spoke English and gave restaurant and shopping recommendations as well as answered our many questions. I Highly recommend this hotel in the center of Madrid!
