“Neat hotel but only just worth it's star value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 September 2009

The hotel was very tidy and room cleaning was done daily and well. On arrival staff gave us two maps and marked on the other map the main sites, where to dine (where it's pricy, where the locals eat etc) and other stuff. All the free items (bathroom kit/mini bar) were filled daily. Minibar only has drinks (soft drink, juice, beer, water). They have many channels on the TV, but failed to mention that only one or two are in English! Most programs are dubbed. The breakfast was quite nice, but as one of us was vegetarian there was not much of hot food without meat. Only fruit, bread and buns were for vegetarians and it was plenty, but after 4 mornings got a bit boring. The free internet means two computers in under ground level and the connection is so slow you can only use one tab at a time (and still have to wait!). All in all our experience in the hotel was enjoyable and value for money (we had a discounted price though).

Only negative - building work being done outside hotel but not hotels fault - it's the same in quite a lot of places in central Madrid at the moment.

Exceptionally polite and helpful staff; large room, comfortable bed, enormous modern bathroom--all very clean; powerful air-conditioning (Madrid is HOT in August!); very conveniently located near a metro station and within easy walking distance. Although the street was under construction, we heard no outside noise at all, and were on the second floor.

I am at this hotel now, Sept 15.
Pros: Very good double windows PLUS shutters, for quiet room
Mini bar with drinks FREE and restocked daily.
Clean and decent sized room (reasonably modern)
Free and fast Wi-Fi
Only 2 blocks from 2 different Metro stations and 3 blocks from Hop On Hop Off
stop ( a great deal for seniors 65+, 11 Euros for 2 days)
Excellent location to lots of restaurants, stores, etc.
A/C worked well as did bath/shower. Decent sized elevators.
Cons: Not major, but street in front is being redone (prob. complete by mid Oct)
Price varies by day. Call/email ahead and get best rate as market soft.
(I paid ave of 115 E, but cheaper on "off days")
Breakfast is a bit expensive, but as I take coffee&roll, so did not try.
(many places nearby have breakfast, incl McD. Egg McMuffin)

Note: Hotel is between Plaza Santo Domingo & Plaza Caliao

Overall - location is great, and a good place to base a Madrid vacation.

We stayed in Junior Suite for 5 nights and these were the most comfortable nights we had in Spain. Our room was huge (living and bedroom) with total of 6 (!) balconies. Kids slept on their couch in living room which was very comfortable. Our bed was great too. Very large bathroom with jet tub/shower and a separate shower, 2 sinks and enough counter space. All in marble and new upscale fixtures. Rooms had hardwood floor, electronic shutters for total light insulation. Eventhough there was some road work going on on our street, our room was quiet. Very nice reception area with helpful people. Very clean too. Location is perfect - walked everywhere. Couldn't wish for any better.

We stayed in this hotel in August 2008 after reading the tripadvisor reviews, and it lived up to all expectations. This is a great hotel close to the busy Gran Via but on a quiet street meaning very little disturbances or noise. There is a Subway station at the top of the road which is ideal to explore the city, using the Preciados as a perfect base. There is a main shopping street and department store only minutes away enhancing the location of the hotel further.

Our room was smallish but ideal for us as a couple, with a small balcony overlooking the street. Modern and clean with the great addition of the free mini bar that was stocked up daily!

The front desk spoke good english and were friendly and helpful all the time, even sorting out football tickets for us at the last minute! They also gave good advice on touring the city.

We payed very little to stay at this hotel meaning it was excellent value for money. If we return to Madrid we wouldn't even look at another hotel unless the Preciados was already full!!

Would definitely recommend this hotel!

Three of us stayed here in April and booked a Jr. Suite. The suite was small but comfortable. Since we had a guest we did not use the sitting area which contained a fold out couch. The rooms were suprisingly quiet considering the busy location. The bathroom was attractive. I liked the two balconies which gave the place a nice touch. The best part about choosing this hotel was the location. Right in Sol and a short walk to Plaza Mayor, the Presidential Palace, prime shopping areas and a host of other sightseeing locations. There are so many nice hotels in Madrid that I probably wouldn't choose this one again. The deluxe room at the Room Mate Alicia (Plaza Santa Ana) was much nicer than the Jr. suite at the Preciados.
