“Charming hotel and charming staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 September 2012

Stayed here for 3 nights for a shopping trip to Madrid with my Mum. The staff were superb - very welcoming and extremely helpful. The hotel is just 20-25 minutes from the airport and very conveniently located for the shopping districts! Our room was lovely - we had a very spacious twin room suite with a very comfortable lounge. Room service food was excellent and promptly delivered. We ate one evening meal in the hotel restaurant. Sadly we were one of just 2 tables for that evening and this resulted in courses flowing a little faster than we would have preferred. However, the staff were attentive and the food was excellent. Our room was front facing and therefore had no view. There was also a lot of noise at about 11-12 pm as the refuse collection took place, however, after that the night was peaceful and the beds were very comfortable.
This is a beautiful small boutique hotel and I would happily stay here again if returning to Madrid.

We stayed here for three nights in July. The hotel itself is just outside the centre of Madrid but so close it doesn’t matter. The hotel itself has beautifully maintained public rooms and is very boutique hotel like. The room was large and well appointed. The front desk staff were so helpful and obliging. We basically got to know them personally as the hotel was virtually empty. We were introduced to the hotel manager on the second day and she was lovely as was the front desk manager, Jose. The hotel restaurant is set in a delightful courtyard and the food and service was superb. Admittedly we were the only ones dining in the restaurant that particular evening.

The only point I would make is that the hotel recommended a restaurant called Alkalde. It was dreadful, easily the worst meal we had in Europe and very overpriced. Avoid this restaurant, but stay at the Orfila!

I relied on our travel agent to pick our hotels for our recent family trip to Spain and she didn't disappoint. The hotel is beautiful. The rooms are very spacious (even when we had to add a rollaway bed to the second room for the kids) and the beds are very comfortable. Our room looked out over a lovely little courtyard that the restaurant uses for dining. Everything seemed very clean. The breakfast served in the morning was delicious with a nice variety. The staff was wonderful! Everyone who was working the front desk was super helpful and friendly. The location was a little off the beaten path but still within walking distance of the Museo de Prado and Puerta del Sol. NOTE: When you leave the hotel, make sure you take one of its cards with you (or have the address with you) because inevitably you will end up in a taxi to come back and none of the taxi drivers we encountered acted like they had ever heard of it much less knew where it was located. Thankfully, all of them have GPS devices now so we had no trouble! The free wi-fi was nice because, even though we were on vacation, we still needed to be in touch! Our teenagers were very happy here but I'm not sure it would be the best choice if you have small children. I would go back!

We spent 4 nights at the Orfila last week and were generally impresed with the size and quality of the rooms andespecially the helpful and attentive staff. As other reviewers have aid it is very well situated for the major attractions, all within walking distance. The room was a good size, overlooking the garden and very well maintained. The bed was enormous and even in the heat of the day, comfortable with the windows open and little need of the air con. Like many others we spent most of the day and evening away from the hotel but it was always nice to be able to come back for a couple of hours rest in te heat of the day and stilbe able to get back out to the sights with little travlling. If you don't want to walk cabs are cheap and plentiful with most areas you would want to go costing between 7-10Euros, so pointless using buses ot trains really.

Areas where the hotel could improve:-

1. Provide tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms to allow an early morning cup and and afternoon relax in the room.

2. Breakfast - A bit of a disappointment. We booked for breakfast on out first morning, though we were the only ones there at 0830. The buffet was OK, but nothing special. We sat for 10- minutes with no sign of any staff member. The menu was a bit confusing, with menu's at 20 and 25 Euros, with a choice of some cooked dishes. In my view this was far to expensive for what was on offer, but probably in line with 5 star prices. I would rather have seen 20 Euros on the price of the room and a buffet breakfast thrown in which would have represented good value. The dining room for breakfast and a late dinner was pretty quiet.

Following another reviewers recommendation we booked for dinner on our last night at 8.30pm ( and found ourselves alone on the terrace). The food was superb, with three perfectly prepared courses each, wit a ouple of beers and lases of wine coming out at 140 Euros. Sounds expensive, but well worth spending the money for such well prepared and presented food.

My minor criticisms aside I do rate the hotel highly and I have no hesitation in recommending it for a short break in Madrid

Boutique type hotel in quiet neighborhood close enough to everything. Tastefully appointed and one of the best staffs I have ever encountered. Allowed an early checkin and for 1/2 the daily rate was allowed to stay in the room until 9 PM the 2nd night. (Was taking a night train from Madrid to Lisbon, not recommended). Great restaurant 30 steps acrosss the street. Reasonably priced for truly 5 star hotel. Will always stay here when back in Madrid.

Room Tip: My room overlooked the gardin and was lovely and quiet. Was able to sleep with my french doors open.

Stayed at the Hotel Orfila in June for 3 nights absolutely wonderful. Extremely friendly and helpful staff. The hotel is in a quiet location which we always like but close enough to all the shopping and places of interest. Our room was lovely, clean and spacious the best start to the day, having breakfast on the patio outside the restaurant they had everything we wanted and more. Will definitely be visiting again we really enjoyed the hotel and Madrid thank you to all the Staff for making our stay such an enjoyable one.
