“Tradition with outstanding cuisine”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

First time at this Relais&Chateau in Madrid. The rooms , as expected, very classic, traditional. You may like it or not. But they are large and cosy. Service and attention are excellent, from the moment you step into the reception hall to the "good morning" in the corridor with the cleaning lady when you leave to stroll Madrid (one of my very preferred cities in the World).
Orfila's restaurant with their super-cosy open air terasse (cigar smokers are welcome) will put a smile on the face of any connaisseur!
Food is very good, from tapas to more sophisitcated dishes, none will disappoint you. But do not ask for burgers!
Linen, silverware, just the way you would expect. Blameless!
Already have a reservation for end June 2014!

We stayed at Hotel Orfila for 3 nights over the late May Bank Holiday weekend. We were greeted by Marcus and Eduardo on reception who couldn't have been more helpful during our stay. The Hotel is located on a quiet street, but centrally located (5 min walk from Metro). We stayed in room 56 a double superior room which is located at the back of the Hotel and hence very quiet. The room was large, beautifully furnished and very comfortable. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff and this made the stay even more special. This will certainly be our hotel of choice whenever we visit Madrid. Highly recommended.

A lovely small hotel--on a quiet street--that was converted from a luxurious residence. The rooms are comfortably furnished with antiques and are fairly spacious. The back side is very close to other buildings so definitely an urban setting where there is no view. It is within walking distance of many sites, including the Prado Museum. The staff is friendly and generally helpful. If you are looking for a place that is 'off the beaten track' and enjoy historic hotels, it is definitely a place to try.

This was by far the best hotel we stayed at during our recent trip to Spain. The room was well suited to our needs and represented an excellent value for the price. However the most outstanding feature of the hotel is the exceptional service provided by Jose Martin and his colleagues. They could not have been more helpful. Although this is a small hotel it is has all the features that one needs and one that we would definitely return to.

We stayed 5 nights at Hotel Orfila May 2014, a small luxury hotel in a quiet but very convenient location (20 minute walk from the Prado; 5 minute walk from Alonso Martinez Metro station). We had a large double superior room with a large very comfortable bed. We asked for and were given a quiet room which overlooked the charming terrace garden where breakfast and dinner are served when the weather is good. No traffic noise and we were able to sleep with windows open. The room and bathroom facilities were adequate and clean, but a little tired and could do with redecoration and updating. The public areas of the hotel were very clean and well cared for. The staff were friendly, charming, efficient and very helpful. Reception booked train tickets for us before we arrived and helped us with other travel queries. The food in the Terrace Restaurant and the service were excellent, as was breakfast. We would definitely stay at the Hotel Orfila again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Garden.

My husband and spent 10 days at Hotel Ofila in April and May 2014. It is a wonderful place to stay when in Madrid. The staff is so incredible. They helped us book our train reservations to 5 other cities in Spain and were always just so pleasant and incredibly fun. The rooms are large -- both deluxe doubles and junior suites. Since the hotel was an old palace, it has an old world feel -- really lovely. The location is also fantastic. It's close to everything yet in a small quiet neighborhood. We would definitely recommend it and will stay there again on our next trip to Madrid.

Room Tip: Rooms are quiet. Junior suites are really lovely.

My husband and I arrived tired having driven some distance and were met with a warm, friendly welcome. Our car was parked for us in their underground garage. The interior is opulent with marble, gilt and mirrors evoking an old world charm. Our room was a large Junior suite; beautifully appointed and very quiet. High ceilings and charming period furniture with free Wifi. The bathroom had his and hers sinks and a bath with a perfectly good shower inside and a separate loo. All very clean. I cannot fault this hotel. The staff were attentive and charming in a genuinely helpful way. The small terrace at the back is quiet and secluded. Although we didn't eat here, we tried an excellent glass of Cava whilst most of the tables were occupied by diners, even in May. Breakfast was served in a bright, airy room off the courtyard. Excellent coffee, a large choice at the buffet and options for cooked food. We were offered a traditional hot chocolate to accompany a chorizo pastry as this is typical of this area...delicious! A perfect start to our mini break.
