“Good location and great value for money”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

This hotel is well located between two metro stations - Principe Pio and Plaza Espana - & very close to the Royal Palace, Cathedral, & the Gran Via. The reception staff are very friendly, helpful and receptive to specific requests - especially Juan, who was very guest orientated, responding promptly and efficiently. We asked for a quiet room and enjoyed restful sleep in a room at the back of the hotel building. Our room was spacious and clean with the free use of a safe. The bathroom was very modern and clean with lovely new towels. I would definitely recommend this hotel for a comfortable, affordable, centrally located stay in Madrid.

Room Tip: If you are seeking a good night's sleep ask for a quiet room at the back of the hotel on a high...

For the price I paid I wasn't expecting very much, but was pleasently surprised when entering our
hotel room. The room was in very good condition, clean and cosy with large, modern bathroom,
inroom safe and a fantastic view across to the Royal Palace.
Check in and out was swift, and staff were both friendly and very helpful.
Location was excellent, nothing was too far away. It was a short (uphill) walk towards the palace, then quite a flat walk onwards into the main pedestrian street (starting at Opera) and then all the way down to Sol. Numerous restaurants & bars all around this area.
Opera (and it's metro station) could be reached in 10 mins on foot and from there to Sol was an easy (flat) walk. Two other metro stations were in easy reach of the hotel.
All in all, a great deal for a capital city hotel, within easy walking distance of everything you could want.
Would not hesitate to stay here again in the future, much better than I had expected.
The area felt safe to walk around at night, but please take caution and be aware of pickpockets on the metro especially around Sol (where my Mother was robbed!)

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the palace on a higher floor.

Hotel Principe Pio in Madrid is an excellent value for money hotel in Madrid.

It is centrally located, walkable distance from the Palace & also to the main square of Gran Via.Metro & train station is also in walkable distance. The Hop in - Hop off tourist bus stop is also close by.

The hotel with its cozy rooms are of old charm with a regal look.Excellent hospitality & ever smiling courteous staff. They really helped us plan our tour perfectly.

The food was also good at an affordable price.

A great place to stay in Madrid.

This hotel was built in a grand style when the street was more popular. The staff were helpful and efficient. The room was spacious and clean. It was fine for one night. The location was pretty central as we walked through the downtown of Madrid. They put a bar on the door at night which says something about the neighborhood. The dining room in the basement was huge with different groups in each corner. They were skimpy on the wine and the meal was disappointing as was the service.

The hotel have a great location. Couple minutes from the Gran Via and two major Metro stations. It is also walking distance from the Almudena cathedral and the Real Palace. The bed wasn't very confortable and the room was a little dusty but I will absolutely stay there again.

Principe pio hotel its located in a great spot in the city, close to subway stations and touristic places like La Gran Via. The room is perfect for someone traveling alone that doesnt want the hassle of a hostel. The price of the room is very cheap but that doesnt impact quality. The room is clean with a spatious bathroom.

Maybe the most important thing is the hotel staff, warm and always ready to help you. I would stay here again if I return to madrid.
