This hotel offers some of the best value for the money I've seen in a major city. The location just off the Puerta del Sol is great, the rooms are well-appointed and clean, the bathrooms large and modern, and the soundproofing is terrific (double-pane glass doors with additional heavy, louvered shutters). The breakfast was also adequate with unlimited coffee. And while the rest of the staff (in the breakfast room and housekeeping) were very friendly, the front desk is staffed by a a pretty uniformly surly group. But how much time do you spend with them? This is still a fantastic place and all four in our group would stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that faces the side street.

We stayed here in October and then again in November for a couple of nights. We had a different room each time and both were excellent in terms of quality, style and value for money. The location is excellent. Relative to the cost I can't offer one negative comment. Ok, maybe one. The breakfast wasn't up to much so don't feel bad about having a lie in and missing it!

Probably the best hotel we stayed in during our week touring Spain. Service was perfect, the hotel is gorgeous, and the room was comfortable and beautiful. But you just cannot beat the location. Right in the middle of the action, best way to discover Madrid!

We spent Christmas in Madrid and stayed 4 nights in Francisco I. It was one of the best choices for hotels I have ever made. A very reasonable price and a clean, nice and modern room. The location is amazing - just in the heart of the city. Our room was facing the all day and night nosy pedestrian street but yet nothing disturbed our sleep. The staff are kind and friendly.
The only negative side was the lack of choice for breakfast but yet for this price the food was great.
Both metro station - opera and sol, are very close. The Arenal street has cafes, restaurants, food, cloths...just everything you could possibly need.

I am puzzled as to why this place has such incredible reviews. The hotel is sticky average - on first glance, it comes across as a functional, clean hotel in a great location a few minutes from puerta del sol. But on closer examination, many things will make your stay downright uncomfortable. The bathrooms have transparent glass - while this could be sexy in the shower area, here, the semi transparent glass gives all inhabitants of the room a full view of the toilet seat. For many, this could be a little too much exposure - especially if you are sharing a room with someone not you are not intimate with. Other little things that are annoying: the safe requires you to deposit a euro every time you use it. If you leave your wallet in there and need to retrieve it 5 minutes later, be prepared to deposit another one euro coin. There is only one trash can in the room. The hotel has done a good job of sound proofing from the street but you will still hear everything from the neighboring rooms. Lastly, The staff are polite but not particularly friendly or open to queries. As an unrelated tip, there is a fabulous Thai restaurant just next to the hotel, with great Lunch and dinner deals, if you tire of tapas. Overall, this hotel may be worthwhile if you get a great deal but we paid 120 euros per night and were not impressed.
