This is a small hotel set in the middle of the historic district of Madrid. You can walk across several roads in a few strides as the roads are very narrow. This hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed at. Not pricey, but exquisite renovation to provide small but luxurious rooms. The best bathroom facilities, with great lighting as is the bedroom with decor to be admired for its art! Colour and cleanliness is admirable. One of the reasons I chose this hotel was that the mattresses were all memory foam and I always wanted to sleep on one. One can't do this in a furniture store! The experience was a good one with little movement from one side to the other of the bed and providing support for the whole body! No aching back from all the walking done in this wonderful city!
The staff are good with their English and very helpful. Breakfast included real orange juice, something I had been wanting all through France and coastal Spain. Its a tiny hotel, only 27 bedrooms and quiet because of this. A small restaurant has great reviews! No One in my memories of Madrid!

Room Tip: Any room would be good - very quiet.

We chose this hotel from reviews on TA and it was perfect for our needs. The room was small but more than adequate and the decor is quirky, but tasteful. The bed was amazing. The service was top class, especially Maria who was at Reception when we arrived. We had been 40 hours in transit due to airport delays, and were greeeted with friendliness, efficiency and a welcome drink and tapas. Our biggest disappointment was that due to the delays, we missed our first night in this wonderful hotel, arriving the following morning. The position is excellent, close to Plaza Major and in a street with many, many great tapas bars, including one at the hotel. Using the advice on TA we requested a room with a balcony and 2nd floor or above and there was certainly no problem with noise. Balcony great for people watching.
Breakfast had not been booked, but we were able to change, and have that included and it was well worth it.
Our introduction to Spain and Madrid could not have been better. We are looking forward to our next stay there, the night before we fly out of Madrid for home.

For the second time in Posada del dragon, and it met my expectations again. Super clean rooms, friendly staff, modern cool decor and decently priced. This time I stayed in a smaller room without a balcony and it was perfect. Nice sized bathroom and the room felt spacious too. Im definitely coming back every time Im in Madrid.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms are very nice because they have a view of the street and the beautiful old rooftop...

Overall our stay at this place has been good though there have been a couple of things that are worth mentioning. Upon arrival we were greeted, checked in and then escorted to our room. The reception staff gave us a tour of the room and showed how everything works (first time I have ever had this). This is a old hotel building that has gone under refurbishment which is not as conservative as it's origins. It has a small courtyard in the middle which is used for the restaurant (that takes up the entire bottom floor).

We paid a little extra for a balcony room. The room was fresh and funky, providing ample space for a couple. Bright colours are used but did not overpower the room. The fittings are modern with hair dryer, safe, TV and bar fridge. The toilet and bathroom facilities are right at entry and you need to walk through these to get to the room. Do not expect privacy if you are sharing. The toilet was very close. The main issue we had was with the emergency light by the door. I understand that it's there for safety but is bright at night and lights up the room. If you have no tolerance for this, it will not suit. The bed was large and soft with the sheets clean and comfortable. Definitely had a good night sleep in this bed. The air conditioning works very well.

I don't mind a little noise and obviously facing the street you are bound to get some noise. The street this property is on is full of bars and restaurants. It has a lot of foot traffic assign through at night. The restaurant down stairs also provides some noise but is generally only to midnight.

We ate twice in the restaurant; once upon arrival for lunch and once late in the evening. Our lunch was exceptional and 5 stars, our dinner sadly was terrible. For lunch we had a tasting set menu that was cheap but exceptional in taste and variety. The tapas was fresh and well cooked with the service provided exceptional. Dinner was busy but the service was poor. As we were coming back from the city with goods for our room. The waitress was quick to notify us that we could not have our own water at the table. Trying to explain that this was for our room she then returned to mention that we would have to buy water. This put us off side very quickly. We ordered a light meal consisting of some of the tapas that we had for lunch the day previously. One item was burnt (croquettes) and the other not cooked through (patatas bravas) we never received the third thing we ordered and it was difficult to get hold of the staff to notify. When we did we had one item removed from the bill in good faith (which was good) but after the contrast in overall experience you could imagine our thoughts of eating there again.

Overall it's worth staying here and we would so again. Value for money in the accommodation was excellent and service by the hotel staff fantastic.

This is a small hotel on a small side street but so well located for all the main attractions. The street itself has appealing bars and restaurants frequented by tourists and locals so has a really authentic feel. The rooms are modern, clean and well equipped and even a little quirky. We paid for a room with a balcony which was a great feature and good for people watching. It was a lttle noisy in the morning with deliveries and what sounded like building work (nearby, not in the hotel itself). The staff are just brilliant. We had to e-mail a couple of times in advance with queries and they responded almost immediately and were extremely helpful. They assisted us with taxis, stored our cased once we checked out and were generally so polite and helpful. I would recommend it as a very affordable but high standard hotel, centrally located in a capital city.

Room Tip: Its worth paying the little extra for a balcony.

My wife, oldest son, and I stayed in two rooms (one with balcony and one without) for six days and loved the place. The hotel is centrally located within walking distance of many places of interest and metro stations. The night life in Cava Baja is amazing with a lot of bars and reataurants. The breakfast buffet (cost 12 euros) is great and the restaurant is awesome. Rooms are small (rooms with balcony are bigger) but very clean and have all the necesities. Best of all is the friendly staff, bend over backwards to help you out. Maria, Danny, Sergio, and the rest of the crew, you are wonderful people. Thank you for all your help and advise.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony are bigger than the rooms without balcony.

Pros:
(1) EXCELLENT LOCATION; only a few minutes to Plaza Mayor, and is surrounded by famous tapas bars. We didn't use a metro once; it took us about 15-20 minutes to walk to each of the major 3 museums (Prado, Thyssen & Reina Sofia), which are located roughly within the same distance from the hotel. For the Palace, it took us about 10 minutes to walk there from the hotel.
(2) COMFORTABLE BED & CHARMING AMBIENCE: the bed was King size and was very comfortable; the pillows were also comfortable. While the room was modern and nicely decorated, its decoration and interior still match the historical "feel" of the building. AND
(3) FRIENDLY STAFF: what impressed us the most was the staff there. One staff is worth mentioning here -- MARIA. She was friendly, helpful, welcoming and knowledgeable. Her smile and willingness to help really made us feel at home. Thank you Maria! The bar staff were also very sweet (and handsome!). They gave us complimentary drink upon arrival, which was a lovely surprise.

Cons:
(1) The fridge was a little smelly and not functioning well. A better fridge would have made our stay more enjoyable.
(2) The shower and the toilet were not really "private"; while the walls were not transparent as such; they were 'translucent'; you can see shadows and there are gaps that outsiders can see through. This could be exciting for a romantic couple, but may not be everyone's cup of tea.
(3) The street could get quite noisy on Friday and Saturday night, although other nights are very quiet.
(4) The restaurant at the hotel is nice, serving delicious food, although the portion is small and we found the price to be on the higher end compared to other restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 103, floor 1 (big King size bed with balcony) and enjoyed our stay there, although...
