“Not a hostel as you would expect!”
Reviewed 12 February 2013

I went for two night with my best friend and stayed at this hostel. The twin room was big enough for what we wanted and reasonably quiet considering it is right int he middle of Madrid.
I wouldnt like to try and find this hostel ii i had never been before.
We ended up getting a taxi from the airport (45 euros) as the flight got in late.
The reception staff were really nice and the room was great for what we paid.
It was clean and tidy with electronc blackout blinds.
This is the first time i'd stayed in a hostel and it really outdid itself with the quality of the place.
Location wise you are in walking distance of loads of bars, restaurants and the metro stations.
Overall a really good stay for a very reasonable price.
Oh, just dont be put off by the entrance. It gets much better when you are inside!

Small room, but very clean and everything you need with a private bathroom and 24/7 service. Beds were made every day, clean towels every day.
Great location; in Chueca, near to the subway and a two minutes walk from the Gran Via.
The staff is really nice although they don't speak Englisch, but we understood eachother great.
For breakfast; try the Museo de Jamon (on several locations in the center): cheap but excellent!
For dinner or lunch: XAKA, caballero de Gracia, a japanese/sushi restaurant, 5 minutes walk from the hostal.
We highly recommend this hostal, we had a great stay!

When we talk about hostels, we think of basic, maybe less than basic accomodation. Sometimes, dirty, nosiy, shared bathrooms, and not very nice places in general. Well, in spain hostels are different, but among the differences, Hostal Hispano (which has been operating for a very long time), is the best choice, not just for location, but also because you will get a private room of a decent size (all with private bathroom) and very clean place with service 24/7. The rooms are very basic, but you will get a real bed, real closet, desk, chair and clean bathroom.
Don't expect more, but you will save money and stay in a safe and clean place.

Room Tip: I would take room with street view... can be noisy though

Reakky nice staff both day and night - appreciate you more if you make an effort to speak Spanish
Only downside - I stayed in room 201 which is next to the common area. At night the concierge sits there and watches tv - you can hear it and him very clearly in the room. You can also hear the buzzer of people trying to get in so s big disturbed sleep but other than that great place and excellent value.

The hotel is said to have two stars, to my mind it would deserve three one as well. This hostel is located on the second floor of a classic Madrid-style house, the rooms are extremely clean, each of them has free wifi and TV, towels and shower gel included. Only the bed was way too short (about 1,70 cms), not well suited for an adult man. Each Madrid sight is within a 5 minutes walk (Gran via, Puerta del sol, Plaza mayor, etc) and the surroundings offer a busy night life with clubs and bars.

Room Tip: Some rooms go to the inner air-well, what is quiet but dark and looks kinda sad... Try to avoid it.

The hotel is greatly located, only 5 minutes walk to the metro station "Gran Via" and 10 minutes walk from "Plaza del Sol" (the real center of Madrid).

Although the exterior might not look very promising (I must admit at first I was disappointed by its look), inside it is the other way around. The rooms are extremely clean and they have everything your need for your stay: comfortable bed and a clean bathroom. If you are a light sleeper, you might have some trouble, since street noise can be heard. If you are like me, you will not even notice it.

Unfortunately, there is no breakfast (or food, whatsoever) option. However, you can find good and cheap places to eat on the same street (try "Vesubio Pizzas").

Some people of the staff might look a bit rude or too serious at first, but apparently this is the Spanish way, don't take it wrong.

In conclusion, this is a place that I would definitively recommend because its cleanliness, ubication, and price.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper, ask for a room that does NOT face the street.

We spent 3 nights in this hostal in the heart of Madrid. The rooms are small and quite basic, just what you would expect in a budget hotel, and it might be a good idea to have ear-plugs handy, as the Chueca area is very busy and noisy especially during the weekend. However, you get good value for your money, the place is very clean, the beds reasonably comfortable and the managers are kind and helpful. The location is great, within an easy walk from Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor, and very close to the metro. Of course, Chueca is the gay barrio, so I would not suggest this accommodation to someone who is not gay-friendly. Overall, this is a good place to stay in Madrid on a tight budget.
