Very clean, with very helpful staff. So close to La Puerta del Sol; we walked or took the metro to all sights. Busy, crowded, not elegant, but safe neighborhood. The only problem we had was that I tried to call internationally using their phone in the room, but it didn't work. Since that was the night before our departure from Spain, I found it very inconvenient. (Had phoned internationally from other hotels with ease and it was not very expensive.) Nothing could be done. Except for that, I would recommend this to budget travelers.

This is not a "hostal"as one might expect in a capital city,it should be a starred rated small hotel.Situated 100 yards from the Grand Via surrounded by a myriad of cafes, restaurants chic and bog standard shops it is ideal for the person who enjoys walking. The rooms are small, all with balconies and private facilities. The beds are comfortable and all facilities are spotlessly clean, indeed ,indeed they changed the linen, towels and toiletries daily for the week we stayed. No food but who cares when one is in the centre of of the restaurant, cafe and hospitality industry of Madrid. There is a drinks machine and snacks situated in the 24 hour manned reception next to a small lounge area.Plasma TV is in all rooms which are centrally heated and have air conditioning. All of this for 45 euros a night for 2 persons. What value! There is a lift to the hotel reception on the first floor.A little gem I shall stay again.

For those that are not familar with Hostals in Madrid, these are small, usually family run hotels. Rooms are small but spotless. They have a 24 hour front desk to let you in the building after hours. Our room facing the side street was somewhat quiet. Most of the staff spoke English and were very helpfull with local information about restraunts and sights. Central location, onlyt wo blocks from the Gran Via and 10 minute walk to Puerto del Sol and Plaza Mayor

This is a 2 star hotel in the middle of Chueca. The rooms are small but the beds are comfy and everything works. The staff are very helpful and there is someone on the front desk through the night to let you in. If you are looking for luxury go elsewhere but for a short stay on a budget this is the place for you.

I went for two night with my best friend and stayed at this hostel. The twin room was big enough for what we wanted and reasonably quiet considering it is right int he middle of Madrid.
I wouldnt like to try and find this hostel ii i had never been before.
We ended up getting a taxi from the airport (45 euros) as the flight got in late.
The reception staff were really nice and the room was great for what we paid.
It was clean and tidy with electronc blackout blinds.
This is the first time i'd stayed in a hostel and it really outdid itself with the quality of the place.
Location wise you are in walking distance of loads of bars, restaurants and the metro stations.
Overall a really good stay for a very reasonable price.
Oh, just dont be put off by the entrance. It gets much better when you are inside!

Small room, but very clean and everything you need with a private bathroom and 24/7 service. Beds were made every day, clean towels every day.
Great location; in Chueca, near to the subway and a two minutes walk from the Gran Via.
The staff is really nice although they don't speak Englisch, but we understood eachother great.
For breakfast; try the Museo de Jamon (on several locations in the center): cheap but excellent!
For dinner or lunch: XAKA, caballero de Gracia, a japanese/sushi restaurant, 5 minutes walk from the hostal.
We highly recommend this hostal, we had a great stay!

When we talk about hostels, we think of basic, maybe less than basic accomodation. Sometimes, dirty, nosiy, shared bathrooms, and not very nice places in general. Well, in spain hostels are different, but among the differences, Hostal Hispano (which has been operating for a very long time), is the best choice, not just for location, but also because you will get a private room of a decent size (all with private bathroom) and very clean place with service 24/7. The rooms are very basic, but you will get a real bed, real closet, desk, chair and clean bathroom.
Don't expect more, but you will save money and stay in a safe and clean place.

Room Tip: I would take room with street view... can be noisy though
