The building and surrounding area are beautiful, although the collection is not that good. It is in the "golden mile", excellent area for expensive shopping, and within walking distance of many tourist attractions.

I have tried to visit the Museum twice in recent years, but the renovations were still under way. It has now reopened after a total internal transformation, and is a must see visit! They have adopted some outstanding display techniques at the cutting edge of museology, and have given great thought as to how best to present and explain their impressive collection. It is worth visiting simply to seethe Roman mosaics - their colour beats anything I have seen elsewhere.

We are looking to go back again to spend more time here. 3 hours would not be enough. Each section is well displayed. It's the first museum in Spain that we've been to that even attempts to appropriately and accurately document the Moorish Period.

From Prehistory, to Ancient Roman Hispana, Egypt & the Nile, Greece, and Medieval Times, this museum covers it. It was recently reopened after an extensive 6 year renovation. It is lovely and definitely worth seeing while visiting Madrid.

This was sort of a far walk from our hotel, but it was nice to see. Reasonable at 4 euros or included in the Madrid card. Lots of interesting things to see and a nice quiet museum.
