Well worth queuing for the cable car ride across Casa de Campo Park. The park itself is huge (over 1700 hectares) and includes its own theme park, zoo and lake. Great views from the cable cars that cross it, taking over 10 minutes each way.

The park itself is free and the cable car is only a few euros

We went for a walk near the lake and had lunch in a restaurant near the lake. I do not remember the name of the restaurant but the meat and the fish was excellent although very expensive. The place and the lake was very nice but hot. I suppose it is better to visit it in autumn or spring or late in the evening.

Huge park with something for everyone, even an amusement park & zoo. Bike & boat rentals, cafes, nature trails....worth the walk!

If you skip the more troden on areas you can go for hours long hikes right in the heart of Madrid. We go for hikes and for meals in the restaurants arround the pond (not so good) on a regular basis.

What a great way to escape the bustle of the city centre - who'd believe that you could find this oasis of peace and quiet with lots of open space in the city!

It's a lot less of a tourist trap than the Retiro and you could almost believe you were well out of the city!

Worth a visit if you like walking in the countryside. If you aren't scared of heights try the cable car too!
