We stopped here on our first day in Madrid and had a great light lunch. We ordered 2 Sangrias, and a split a sandwich. We were given two bite size sandwiches with our sangria (which was pretty good) and our ham sandwich was delicious and I think we paid less than 5 euros. The man serving us was friendly and we had such a good experience that we planned to go back at the end of our trip. The second visit, it was less crowded but the man working refused to take our order. We had a space at the counter and they took orders from people around and behind us, but when we tried to order they either asked us to wait or just walked away. We waited for a long time until it was clear that they'd rather wipe the counters than take our order.

I visited this restaurant with 2 chefs. We were conducting a food tour of Spain and went in to check it out as a possible stop for our group to get an education on jambon. We went upstairs to eat and were excited by the menu. It was very well priced. That should have been our first clue.
The french fries on the huevos estrellados were soggy and undercooked and the russian salad was so dripping in mayo that is was inedible. The beer was fine and the rose was not the best we had.
If your standards are not high and you want a cheap meal, go there. If you enjoy food and want something more than a glorified cafeteria meal - don't.

Great value for money, good food and cheap drinks, especially considering its in the centre of Madrid.

Great food, quick, and cheap. Really enjoyed the food, who knew there are so many varieties of ham.

This is a must to experience when visiting Madrid. If you want to socialize, the bar is the way to go. It is kind of difficult to get a spot though as it is always full. Dining upstairs is the way to go if you want some privacy and escape the crowd noise. Jamon Iberico and cheese, plus Sangria at a very reasonable price. I expected a much higher price dining upstairs, but apparently not much difference.
