“EXCELLENT LOCATION AND VALUE FOR MONEY!”
Reviewed 20 June 2011

This place was really a geat find. Its relatively cheap and the location is just amazing. You are in the heart of all the tourist areas, which are all in walking distance. From the hotel, turn right and you will be in the museums in 10 mins. Turn left and you will be in puerta del so, plaza mayor, and the palace in 5-10mins.
Some rooms may be a bit noisy. We stayed in the room beside the reception area and we could hear everyone coming in and talking late at night. It really didnt bother me as much as it did my wife who was a light sleeper. Aside from this, I could not find any other complain as the rooms are very comfortable and clean.
Just one more thing, you might miss this place as their sign is located above so you better look up.

Central location near Sol station, easy to find. Our double room was upgraded to the superior double. The room was great and also had a tub. In room safe which costs 1 euro per use. Good aircon, good wifi. Vending machine in hallway did not work!

Value was extremely good for us cos of upgrade, but not too sure what the normal rooms were like.

I had two nights at the Astoria in May. It was very clean and comfortable and the staff are helpful, friendly and speak good English. Price was 47 Euros/night which is good value for the central part of Madrid. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to someone who is looking for a cheap and cheerful hotel in the centre of Madrid. Hotel is also very close and an easy walk to the Plaza Cibelles bus stop, which is a stop used by the yellow airport bus.

We loved this hostal. the staff were friendly, helpful. We were close to all the major attractions in Madrid - El Prado, El Retiro etc. We bought ten journey metro tickets but didn't need to use them as we were able to walk everywhere. We had a lovely room at the back of the building. It was very clean and spacious. There is a facility to leave bags until departure time which we found useful.

Room Tip: ask for a room at the back away from the street

We stayed for 8 nights in October. Cool reception then we did not go to or need the help of the hotel staff. We found our room on the 4th floor clean and comfortable, nice little outside patio no view though it felt good to sit out after long days of sight seeing. We both enjoyed the spa like shower pod. The location was prime to all the sights, and I was not awoken by street noise with the window and shutter closed.

We spent three nights in Hostal Astoria, and were happy with our decision. The location is unbeatable. Very central, walking distance to almost all major sights. The room is rather small, but after you got over the initial shock of its size, it actually was not bad at all. You just had to get used to it (if you are a spoiled American, it's probably not for you). The air conditioning worked well, the shower had good water pressure, and the room was quiet. The front desk staff spoke enough English to help out. There is also a computer with internet access.
