Astoria Hostal is central, right next to Puerta del Sol, is on the 5th and 4th floor of a building in Carrera de San Jerónimo, very close to the museums Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia. the rooms are clean and comfortable. The Hostal has vending machines, and next to the main door of the hostal, there is one of the best pasteries of madrid. San Jeronimo Street is very busy in the morning so id better to take some ear plugs.

I stayed here for a couple of nights and was upgraded to a twin at the back ,which was quiet and clean and comfortable. They have 2 lifts and one is not working. There are restaurants, bars and all the tourist attractions within 10 minutes walk. The price was a bargain for the location alone in one of Europes greatest cities

Room Tip: Look on the hotels website photos to familiarise the location

A basic hotel where the noise from the street traffic is the only drawback. If you're a light sleeper either get a room away from the street or go somewhere else!

We stayed here for two nights and apart from the lift breaking down on one day (five flights of stairs is a hard walk) we really have nothing to complain about. We arrived well after 11pm but it was no problem and the guy at reception was very friendly and helpful. Our room was very tiny but had a comfortable double bed, flat screen tv (only spanish channels but that's what you expect in a hotel of this standard), good size wardrobe and a clean, compact, shower room. It is very close to all attractions, which lots of places to eat and shop close by. There is a very reasonably priced drinks machine in the lobby and free internet access. This is not luxury by any means but for the price it has to be recommended.

There are no tea/coffe making facilities in the room so take a travel kettle and some tea bags if you need this.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the front are a little quieter.

We stayed in this Hostal for 4 nights. It is very central and close to all the attractions. There is an abundance of restaurants and bars nearby. The room we stayed in was small but very clean and perfectly adequate for our needs. However, as our room was at the front of the building overlooking a busy street, it was very noisy and it was hard to sleep. It would be advisable to request a room at the back of the buiding. The staff had excellent English and were helpful. All in all, this Hostal was very good value for a central location. Breakfast is not available at the Hostal but there are plenty of options nearby.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back of the building are quieter.
