I have stayed here twice and love the location. It's across the road from a metro station and there are many bakeries and restaurants within easy walking distance. There is also a laundromat within blocks. The biggest negative factor for me is the inability to book a twin room on the accor website. Other ibis hotels do but not this one. I had an issue as I was not keen on sharing a bed with my 17 year old daughter and no twin rooms were available. Management resolved the issue to my satisfaction but I will be reluctant to book again if I have to make an international call to arrange a twin room. The food from the hotel is also ordinary and I would recommend eating at the Italian place nearby as their food was divine.

This hotel should be a good choice for the light packers, because to get there from the airport one needs to change three subway lines. But once you are there, it's very easy to get to all main attractions in the city since the hotel almost seats on the entrance to the Red and Green lines of the subway (called here Metro). The station is named Ventas and to Puerta del Sol is about 15 min. from here, to Prado - 10 (station Banco de Espania), to the King Palace - 17 min. (station Opera). It's good idea to buy a tourist ticket for 1, 2 or 3 days and have unlimited number of rides. The one-day ticket cost 8.40 Euros.
Hotel is a typical Ibis with all basic necessities one can expect in the two-star hotel. Our room was very clean and well maintained all three days we stayed there and all staff was very friendly and eager to help. We liked very much their new kind of mattresses, pillows and duvets they recently introduced in Ibis Hotels and although it's the matter of personal preferences we considered this innovation as a big improvement compared to what we were offered in Ibis hotels in Paris and Barcelona in 2011 during our previous trip. To improve the safety of the guests, only a person with the valid hotel card (the same you open the room) can use the elevator.

We arrived at the Ibis Madrid at Ventas from the airport, an easy ride on the 200 bus (€1.50) to Canellaja then the metro (€1.70) to Ventas on the green line. We were greeted by very lovely reception staff which was a relief for us as we had been at the airport for three hours waiting for missing luggage that never came.

Our room was on the third floor and had a kind of internal window which we aren't sure if it lead to outside or was enclosed as the safety chain in the window wouldn't let us open it too wide. It was lovely and clean and the bathroom was massive. The bed had a fabulous mattress and was the most comfortable thing we had slept on in ages, in fact I would go as far to say ever in a hotel of the standard we stay in regularly (ie under £80 per night). The shower is large with endless hot water and a powerful (not painful) shower head.

We never tried the food in the hotel, but Alex on reception makes a mean cafe cortado which we had one of before heading out each day. The reception staff were always extremely helpful and called about our missing luggage each morning and afternoon, and it never seemed a bother for them even though they were on hold for over 10 mins each time.

There is a supermarket on the corner and lots of cafés on the main road on the right as you exit the hotel. The bull ring is right across the road if that is your thing and there are ticket touts around the area out front of Plaza Toro if you wanted to get a last minute ticket!

Ventas is served by two metro lines which is very handy, and one goes straight to the city. We bought a two day tourist pass which gave us endless travel in zone A, and if you do more than three metro trips it is well worth it at €4.80 pp per day.

I would highly recommend staying at the Ibis Madrid Ventas!
