Review of Museo Cerralbo

This is not a museum in the usual meaning of the word . This is the true house of an XIX century spanish aristocrat , and it is really interesting to visit . Try to imagine that you are really visiting the marquis in 1889 , during the spanish-american war . Only the presence of the guards and other visitors will keep you away from this fantasy , as the house gives you a so realistic feeling .

visited with my Madrid card but it does have free days/times as well. Brief guide (Eur1) worth the purchase, You have to leave All bags including small handbags in a locker at the ticket office. However you can take any size camera with you and take as many photos as you want. The building was designed in the townhouse design in the late 1880s and houses everything from a ballroom to an armoury and everything in between. It gives the impression of a showhouse rather than one to live in. I could not find the way to visit the gardens which are shown and described in the guide. I would definitely recommend but go early as it isn't very spacious and would be a nightmare with a large crowd

This is a lovely museum. It's small compared to many but has such beautiful rooms and pieces to see. The guides directing you through the museum are among the best and friendliest I've ever met. They obviously love the place and their jobs; one man in particular was so enthusiastic it was infectious. But they didn't intrude if you didn't want to engage with them. So they were just perfect. A really lovely place to visit and I would totally recommend it. What's more, as I happened to visit on a Sunday, it was free!!

This is the former palace of a Spanish noble. Well worth the entrance fee, this self guided tour has some incredible details. The armory is a must-see, including pieces from Asia / Pacific.

This exhibition features an very eclectic mix of items collected over an extensive period. It is difficult to imagine how someone could actually live in a house, and appreciate, so many items. By the end of the visit, found the exhibit to be overwhelming because of the number and variation of items on display.
