I stayed at sol hostel for a week in March and in September I decided to book there again because its a very good and cheap option in Madrid. The staff is very helpful and kind, they offer breakfast in the morning, the rooms and common areas are kept clean and its very close to the museums.

Checking in you notice that there are no places to sit, the staff are bored and inattentive, but can offer you some cheap dreads, maybe less smoking dope and more attention to the clients would be nice. Now one guy without dreads was good. The rooms were good and spacious with comfortable beds, all Ikea brand new. The showers and bathrooms were definitely no frills converted old 70s ones. The cleaners are extremely slow and don't know what they do as the room, walls, floors, corridors and bathrooms are dirty. Using the kitchen is a joke, as only one ring works you have to queue for ages and cant really cook because its only one ring!! The pots are all filthy as is most things in the kitchen. When i was there they put in another ring but that was also filthy and it meant that you could not use the kettle! What kind of organization is this?. Finally the breakfast was entirely without vitamins or nutrients of any kind. Toast, madelines and tea. The laziest least effective breakfast i have ever had. I think homeless people eat better. The neighbourhood is quite rough and rundown and not near any of the important sites. Really awful all round but it was very quiet. Pay the 1 or 2 euros more and stay in a nice place. because you are worth it!!

Room Tip: get a good room by going to another hostel!!

Dirty dirty dirty!
I've never seen an hostel so dirty and distroyed.
The breakfast is poor and disgusting. Rooms were dirty (did I say dirty before?) and the shower was not working correctly. Without any comfort, also the lockers were not working.
It's just enough if you want to sleep in a dirt place and go out. Positive is that it's quite big and it's possible to meet other travellers.
