“Excellent downtown Madrid hotel”
Reviewed 28 May 2012

We stayed at Hotel Regina for 2 night early May. It's directly across from the Metro and well situated to many of the sites we wanted to explore on foot. There are also many food options within short walking distance. Our room is located in the remodeled section. It's very quiet and clean. The only negative with the hotel was the limited wireless bandwidth - connection much better in the mornings when presumably fewer users were connected.

Excellent location in the heart of central Madrid. One of the best beds we have slept in. For the location and bed we would stay here again. Only downside is that the aircon did not work and room was a bit stuffy

The Hotel Regina is an excellent value-for money hotel. It is situated perfectly for exploring central Madrid on foot. The front door is about ten steps from one of the exits of Sevilla metro station. The staff speak reasonable English, the service is good. The room was minmalist - but no more or less than you'd expect from a medium-price hotel. We were on the fourth floor, but we heard very little noise at night (and Madrid nightlife can be very noisy!) As we were travelling on a very tight budget we didn't eat the €15 breakfast but chose to eat the €3 breakfast in a cafe which was right next to the lobby. Criticisms? the instructions for the room safe were confusing: you need to use your credit card to lock it. And the bathroom hairdryer didn't work. But the concierge quicjkly found us a very good quality replacement. All in all..thoroughly recommended!

This is a really lovely hotel in a great location. Easy (and cheap!) to get to and from the aiport by Metro as the metro stop Sevilla is right outside the hotel. All the main attractions are within walking distance. We could not speak highly enough about ALL the hotel staff, in particular Ricardo (Richard) at the reception desk. We asked him to recommend a restaraunt with Flamenco dancing which he did and he made a reservation for us. He also recommended sights to see and things to do, he drew maps, explained everything. It's so nice to see staff give you their time and happy to do so! We only had breakfast in the hotel as we went out for dinner in the evenings. The breakfast buffet was delicious, a mixture of hot and cold food and tasty sweet pastry treats. A great way to start the mornings! We booked the superior room special package on their website which included champagne, water, and fresh fruit on arrival. The superior rooms were recently renovated rooms and are decorated nicely, lovely big bathroom, air con, and safe. The only minor thing I had was our room window looked out onto a walled area so the room was a bit dark and you could not see what the weather was like outside (luckily for us we had fantastic weather for the 3 days!). I did read other reviews on here where guests had asked to be moved to another room but we did not bother as we were only there for a weekend and spent little time in the room anyway. Other than that, this 3 star hotel was by far much better than we expected and would definatley recommend it. So much to see and do in Madrid, will have to return back to see and do the things we never got a chance to do this time, and of course will book Hotel Regina for our stay!

OK so it's only a 3 star but as Spanish 3 stars go it's at the top end. Staff are helpful & courteous and speak good English. The hotel is clean and doesn't feel at all worn down.

The room - we had a Standard Double, the bed was like a King though really and the room, while basic, was good for that. One minor gripe was the power box which came on when the card was inserted buzzed a bit, probably should have mentioned this to reception but it didn't keep us up or bother too much. Air conditioning did the job although was only need for first couple of nights. Room was quiet, bathroom was clean. Nothing more to say.

Breakfast was buffet, with plenty on offer and all was warm. Of course, there was some great coffee and everything you'd pretty much expect.

My reasoning for booking this hotel was a combination of the price, the location and the great reviews it gets, and all were validated during our stay. Unless you really need luxury, if you're exploring Madrid it's the perfect place for you.

Room Tip: 413 was at the back, top floor, very quiet.

We choose this hotel for it's location and were not disappointed. It was so close to all of the sights we wanted to see in Madrid (Prado, Palace etc) we didn't have to use the metro at all.

All the staff we met were friendly and helpful. We arrived early before our room was ready and were able to leave our luggage before heading out sight seeing. On our return we were checked in and given a map and recommendations on where to go in Madrid by a very friendly receptionist.

Our standard room was large and modern and appeared to be recently refurbished. The style of room is very different to that shown on the hotel website but was in keeping with the standard of the hotel and the price we paid. There was only one small window which overlooked a small internal space so didn't provide much light but at least there was no street noise. The bathroom (shower no bath) was large and well stocked with toiletries which were replaced daily. We had problems with the air conditioning but as the weather wasn't too hot we didn't bother to report it to the hotel staff.

We didn't eat in the hotel so cannot comment on the restaurant. There is a cafe next door where we had a lovely breakfast each morning.

Overall I would recommend this hotel for it's staff and it's location.
