Reviewed 8 June 2014 via mobile

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights and were pleased at how centrally located this hotel is. Rooms by Calle Alcala are noisy and there was a lot of noise due to construction/renovations during the day. Room size was good (3 single beds with 1 bed in a semi separated area). Room did not match photo on website showing renovated rooms but decent enough. Concierge service was excellent. 5 stars for location and service by concierge; 3 stars for room.

The hotel is very conveniently situated 2 min from Puerta del Sol, right in the hart of Madrid. You won't need any transport to visit the city center.
I had a single room in the 'old' part of the hotel but it was great - very spacious, had a double bed, nice bathroom, very clean, comfortable bed. I had an interior view which was not very nice, but it wasn't a problem.
The staff is very helpful and polite.
Breakfast was the same every day bu was pretty varied.

All in all, I had a great experience with Regina hotel.

Got hotel to arrange airport pickup (euro 30 from airport to hotel for both of us). Driver waiting with signboard, took our bags, led us to vehicle and in just about 30mins or under, we were at hotel. Hotel is in perfect location – Retiro Park and Prado Museum to the left and Main Square (Plaza Major) and Royal Palace to the right. We walked everywhere from the hotel. In front of the hotel on Calle Huertas there are many great tapas places. Heaps of plazas (squares) around, and the laneways are such a great way to explore and get “lost”.

The main road Gran Via and all the shops are also around the hotel. The hotel itself faces many fantastic architectural buildings. The hotel is modern and “boutique”. Most of Madrid’s buildings are about 8-9 stories. The room we had is spacious and modern. The lobby, café and restaurant also looks modern.

There is a safe deposit box but no coffee/tea making facilities. No tissue boxes but water pressure and hot water system fantastic. Shower itself could be bigger as it was quite a squeeze and I am not a large person. Toiletries replenished daily. Bed and pillow comfy – pillows are big and long. Air-con nice and quiet. Complimentary bottled water would have been great.

All in a day’s Self-Walking “Tour”:
Walk 5 mins right of hotel along Calle Major to Puerta Del Sol (Kilometre 0 – centre of all Spain) and another 2 mins from here to Plaza Major (shops not open till 10am and no restaurants open for breakfast here – more a lunch/dinner vibe). From here another 2-3 mins down to Royal Palace and next to it the Sabatini Gardens and Pl. de Oriente (garden with statues of kings opposite the Palace). Walk across the street to Plaza de Espana and Monumento A Cervantes then up along Gran Via. We started off at 7.30am and ended up having breakfast along Gran Via about 10. Streets nice and quiet but hardly anything open at this time which suited us fine. It was quite chilly in the morning (5th May) but by noon, it was warming up to 25 degrees. The streets are filled with small squares (plazas) and gorgeous historical architectural buildings – a feast for the eyes. The Rolex and Edificio Metropolis buildings at the point where Calle Alcala and Gran Via meet. Cross over and continue waling to Banco de Espana and the roundabout of Fuente de Cibeles – gorgeous fountain in centre with Cibeles palace at a backdrop (Information centre here). Along Paseo De Recoletos there were heaps of stalls selling collectible books. There’s also a cathedral we walked into that was gorgeous between the Cibeles palace and the Arch (just at the corner after crossing the street from Paseo De Recoletos). Continue walking along to Puerta de Alcala (similar to Arc d’Triumph). Walk to centre of road on both sides of the Arch and take photos. We stopped to have a Café con leche in front of the Arch near Retiro park entrance.

Walk around Retiro park (free admission) to Monumento Alfonso (the arched building in front of the lake). Then walk on to Palacio De Velazquez (free admission in the art gallery). Next to this is the Palacio De Cristal (also free admission). In front of the Cristal palace is a lake with cypress trees, big fish and many turtles. We then continue across the park towards Prado Museum (general admission is Euro 14 and closes at 8pm). In front of the Prado Museum is the Iglesia De Los Jeronimos cathedral. Spend about 3 hours min. here. We had lunch at the Museum Café and continued our museum visit on the other floors. After this, walk along Paseo Del Prado back to Hotel Regina. We had a bit of a rest at the hotel, freshen up and headed out again about 6.30pm to explore all the laneways once more, tapas bars across the hotel around Plazas Del Sta An and del Angel. There’s also the Flamenco shows at Villa Rosa and heaps of cured meat shops. It did not get dark till about 9pm so we had plenty of day light to explore.

We stayed here for four nights over the recent bank holiday weekend. Having never been to Madrid before we wanted to be central, and we were. The hotel was very easy to reach from the airport (24-h airport bus and then a 5-minute walk up the main street). When we arrived the room was ready. It was smallish but then you don't tend to spend long in your hotel in Madrid I don't think. Ours had a view of brick walls, which wasn't ideal, but if I craned my neck to the right I could see the large statue on the roof of the next building. We didn't have many interactions with the staff but those we did meet were pleasant and efficient. The one issue we had was the amount of noise we could hear from the neighbouring room. The walls were painfully thin, and our headboard was obviously up against their wardrobe, which had sliding doors, which they kindly banged at regular intervals. We could also hear every word they said, and their TV. Private it wasn't. Having said that we were maybe in one of the cheaper rooms so the bigger rooms at the front might be better noise-wise. All in all, a great hotel at a great price, particularly considering the perfect location.

We got a discount price and were very pleased with the great value we got. The room was nicely decorated. Cleanliness standards are excellent. We loved the quality and variety of the breakfast buffet at an extra cost.
It is centrally located and within walking distance to Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Museo del Prado, Museo Thyssen Bornemisza, Teatro de la Zarzuela, Palacio Real, la Gran Via, etc. etc.
Although the hotel is located on a busy street, the room at the back of the hotel was very quiet.
We would definitely return to this hotel on our next trip to Madrid.

Room Tip: Our room was in the back and of the hotel and very quiet.

I had a two day layover in Madrid coming from Tenerife. I chose this hotel because the rooms were on sale. I normally don't choose hotels because I prefer flats or suburban areas stays. I have to say, I was pleasantly surprised.
It took about forty-five minutes on the metro from the aeroport to the Sevilla station. Hotel Regina is literally ten steps from the exit of Sevilla. It is in the middle of Madrid, close to all the major sites such as the Royal Palace and the Prado.
Check-in was smooth and simple, used a mix of Spanish and English. My room was in the back of the hotel and it was so quiet. I think I saw three guests over the course of my stay in the hallways. However, the cafe was always busy! There is a sandwich restaurant next story which serves gourmet offerings.
The room was awesome. WiFi was fast! The only thing that might be uncomfortable for people is there was no door to the WC, only a wall separating everything from the room. However, the cleanliness and roominess definitely negated that caveat.
I would look forward staying here again when I have a short stay in Madrid. Location, price, staff, and value were unparalleled.

Very good service, excellent breakfast and the location is outstanding. I've stayed two different occasions for a total of 6 nights. Walking to major shopping, Puerta del Sol and the Palace is within 10 minutes. The hotel is about mid way between the Palace and the Prado.

Internet is not consistent, but workable. Currency exchange rate offered by the hotel was very competitive with local banks, and better than exchange bureau.

The price, in view of the strengths is what makes this a very good place to stay. When I return to Madrid I will stay at the Regina.
