“O.K. Hotel, fantastic Location, noisy inside and out.”
Reviewed 11 April 2010

Easy hotel to get to just up the stairs of the Sevilla metro stop in a beautiful location of Madrid. It is only a block or so from Puerta del Sol which is a good place to start your trip from. We booked through a popular travel website and based our room purchase on price and location. On these grounds the Hotel fit the bill and we certainly have no regrets booking this place as our first hotel in Spain. O.K. room, two twin beds, clean, very nice bathroom, and an alright overall place. It was very noisy both within the building and sounds coming from the street, the floors creaked, and the staff was pretty oblivious to guests. Nothing too fancy and as we travelled through Spain we realized the base room price on the internet is just that, the base room. While some other rooms would be strong three star rooms, ours would need a little push to get there. In the end we were happy but did find better places for a similar prices later on in the trip.

We arrived at the hotel late in the evening and were appointed a small but nice room, a bit aged in style. Clean, wooden floors, good sized bathroom. At night we noticed there was some noice coming from the corridor, but the main problem was it was unbearably hot in the room, and in the morning we asked if they could do something with it. They instantly offered us to change to another room and they would fix the heating problem before next guests would arrive later that day. After we came back from breakfast, our babbage was transfered to our new room: modern, stylish, very nice room, even much nicer than previous. The only problem from that on was that they obviously had some problems with room keys, as we had to go twice have the key cards rewritten.

Location of the hotel is perfect, just a couple of minutes from Puerta del Sol on a busy street. Nearest metro station Sevilla is on the doorstep, 50mins from the airport with two transfers.

Hotel staff was very nice and helpful whatever we asked, and we never had to wait for response. And a very big plus was free wifi in the rooms. Next time in Madrid, we won't need to think of any other place to stay than Regina: cleanliness, good service, location, and free wifi make it a perfect place to stay!

It's right at the center. Metro station is very near. But the problems are the stupid thin wall without any sound proof & the stupid door which in order to close it properly you have to bang it really hard.
My wife is a light sleeper. She barely slept since all the neighbors banged their doors until 1am. Overall not good experience

I agree with the majority of reviews: the location is fanatastic, the staff is aloof but bearable especially if you speak Spanish. We were in Room 202, which was an ok size, was clean, contained the number of beds we needed, and had a nice bathroom. It also had a great view of the street, which was terrific during the day, but was full of honking cars, and loud drunks all night long. Even with earplugs we got very little sleep. As long as you're careful not to get a room that faces Alcala, the hotel is a good value.

One last warning: the lobby of the hotel is full of cigarette smoke all day & all night, as is the cafe, since smoking is permitted in the cafe. For non-smokers it is distinctly unpleasant.

Oh, and I was never able to get the free wifi...

Two of my sisters and I stayed at the Hotel Regina for three nights March 2010. The price, location and reviews from this site prompted us to book this hotel. We were thrilled when we stepped off of the metro and found the hotel immediately. It's in a lovely building and our room was spacious, classy, and clean. The bathroom was huge for a European hotel and lovely. This is the nicest hotel we've ever stayed in for this price. The staff was great and we were able to communicate fine with our basic knowledge of Spanish. If we are ever in Madrid again, we will definitely try and stay at this hotel. It's a gem. My sisters ate at the restaurant at the hotel and weren't terribly impressed, but there are some great restaurants nearby. Pans & Company is on the same street and has a pastry and coffee special each morning for around 1.75 Euros. We also ate at Fresc Co on Caballero de Gracia for a cheap buffet-style meal. It's a chain with unlimited refills for 10 Euros. On our last night we ate at La Gloria de Montera Restaurante on the same street as Fresc Co and had a really delicious meal for a reasonable price. Arrive early b/c there will be a line. Other recommendations for Madrid include taking a day trip to Toledo, and getting to the Royal Palace when it opens to avoid long lines.

This hotel is ideally situated for exploring Madrid. It is pretty central and on a quiet street. We stayed in room 144 which appeared to be newly decorated with modern fittings. No problems at all with the room, in fact it seemed really good value for what we paid. Unfortunately, there was a staff service door close to our room and all we could hear until 12 midnight and from 6.30 a.m. was this door slamming every time a member of staff went through it which was often and at times constant. This totally spoiled our stay as we got so little sleep. Other than that, a real find and would stay again in a different room.

I've been to Madrid before and I was looking for a better choice from my last hotel there. The Hotel Regina seemed like a good value with a good location.

The hotel is surrounded by some beautiful banking buildings in Madrid and is near all major sites but not in a heavily traffic area like Gran Via. The lobby is large with ample seating and a restaurant. Check-in staff were pleasant but a little aloof. I first got a room with very strange directions. Part of the hotel is being renovated. After looking a couple of times I gave up and came back to reception and they gave me another room that was easier to find.

My room was large with a decent sized bed, large pillows and large bathroom. There was an in room safe and a small tv. Wifi was free but as other reviewers mentioned very spotty. It kept working fine and then would stop working. It was very frustrating at times.

Overall the hotel was okay with the decent price and great location. The decor was dated but functional. It's definitely a decent choice but there may be better choices in Madrid.
