Our trip had us arriving in Madrid for a few days, travel around the country for a few days and then back to Madrid. We had a different hotel booked for our return to Madrid, however, we loved the Hotel Europa so much, we decided to cancel our reservations and return. Although the second hotel was a more luxurious hotel, you can't beat the location (Pureto del Sol), convenience (5-15 walk to so many attractions), right by metro stop and energy of the location. The rooms were clean and roomy (we had a triple). Although we had an interior room, it was very quiet considering we were right off of Puerto del Sol. The staff was wonderful friendly and recommended so great places for us to eat. Overall, the hotel was an excellent value and experience.

We were here in october 2011, had a suite with 2 balconies, overlooking the Puerta del Sol. The room was great, with a nice bathroom, TV, and lots of light. The bed was a real 1 bed (not 2 beds pushed together). The balcony had double paned windows to keep the noise of the plaza out. The plaza is very lively with lots of people, we loved it. The location is great, right by the subway Sol, and near the Plaza Major. We found it to be a very convenient location and a great place to stay. I think it's important in this hotel to have a room with a balcony facing outside. From what I saw walking by a room that was being cleaned- if the window faces indoors (an indoor courtyard?), the room is dark like a cave. A room with a balcony here is great, with lots of light. I'd love to stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies overlooking the Puerta del Sol plaza are great. Don't get a room overlookin...

We stayed at the Hotel Europa for three nights for our anniversary. It is located in the famous Puerta Del Sol, which is within walking distance to the majority of the major attractions, 5 min walk to the Gran Via and the metro station is a two minute walk from the front door of the hotel.
The hotel has a nice reception and the staff were very helpful in giving directions and advice, their English was very good. The hotel has a restaurant with a large seating area indoor and outdoors. Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony that faced into Calle Del Carmen which was nice, when the window was closed it really blocked the sound out from outside which was good as it was very busy at night. The room had a safe and a good sized plasma tv. The bathroom was nice too, very spacious and marble all over.
I Can 100% recommend this hotel for location and price and when travelling to Madrid again this will definitely be where we will lay our hat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing into the square

This hotel is a perfect location for a stay in Madrid. It's right on the Puerto del Sol, which is lively at all times of day and night, and within walking distance of all the major tourist attractions, as well as being near many restaurants and tapas bars. The metro is right there as well, so easy access to the airport.
The rooms are large, comfortable and extremely clean, everything you would expect. The staff was very helpful with suggestions on places to eat and recommendations for nightlife. Would definitely stay there again on our next visit to Madrid.

I am American, and this hotel was very good. We stayed on two occasions within 2 weeks at the Madrid location. Our price was 110 Euro per night including tax. Rooms are big, bathrooms are big, TV was great with many channels, sound-proof windows, located on Puerta del Sol plaza, excellent English-speaking staff, restaurant conveniently located on ground level, good A/C, clean room, fair beds. Walking distance to Palace, museums, parks, train station, tapas bars, shopping, and much more. Excellent value.

Room Tip: Book early, ask for room with view of Plaza.

Just returned from a 3 night stay at Hotel Europa with my adult daughter. I learned about the hotel from the Rick Steves travel book for Spain, as well as from his pbs video, so I knew it would be clean and somewhat satisfactory. The location is excellent, within balcony view of Puerto Del Sol-right around the corner of the square. All rooms have small balconys, which we opened the windows to see the activities in the square from our rooms-although it appeared that very few people were using them. The hotel is very clean, with wooden floors (much preferable to carpet). Amenities are very basic, nice accomodating shower, mattresses could be a little more comfortable, but they met our needs, as we were exausted at the end of every day and sleep came very easy to us! We had 2 twin beds in our room. A nice flat screen TV, a desk, hair dryer, etc. all the necessities. We didn't use the safe but there is a safe in the room-not sure if there's a charge, as there's a note on the safe to contact the front desk for use. There are no vending machines, but there's an entrance from the lobby to the restaurant and we bought bottled water (1 euro) from there as we needed it. One major complaint-wireless is very poor. The front desk claimed that wireless access was in our rooms but it was very transient-one evening we got a connection outside of our rooms from the hallway-we sat on the stairs on our smart phones to plan our next day. They do have 2 pc's set up in the lobby that you can access for free for 15 minutes-but be warned that their wireless access isn't very reliable-weak at best. The staff were all very nice and helpful-you leave your room key at the desk as you depart, and they are quick and efficient at keeping up with this. The staff at the front desk were also very helpful w/questions and recommendations about activities in Madrid-we requested some help for Flamenco dancing and airport metro directions and they were very attentive to our needs. We also ate several times in the hotel restaurant-nice outdoor dining, good food selections and English menu. I would welcome the opportunity to return-enjoy your stay!
