I have stayed at this hotel several times. This hotel is perfect for a stay in Madrid. The hotel is located in the heart of the city. The metro is on the corner, the streets are full of life, lots of shopping, bars and restaurants. All attractions are in walkingdistance.
The staff is very helpful and sweet. The rooms are clean, large and comfortable.
No breakfast or minibar. The hotel has a restaurant with both indoor and outside serving.
If you have a room with a view to the streets, it can be a little noisy, but it never bothered me.

Room Tip: The rooms with the view is a little noisy, but they do have a great view! You can ask for any room y...

Even in the midst of a large demonstration, our interior rooms were quiet.

The room itself was small with two double beds. The floral smell, annoying when we first entered the room, disappeared when we opened the doors to the inner courtyard. An annoying light over the door was helped with eye shades. We stayed there only one night to catch an early flight.

Location was very central, and even though the mass protest kept the taxis from taking us there, its proximity to metro station Sol provided a fairly easy and direct path from the Atoche rail station.

This was our last night of a 7 day trip and I am glad we had only booked one night here.

Room Tip: Central location right on the plaza makes this a good choice to explore the city.

Hotel Europa is clean, comfortable, surprisingly soundproofed and well-staffed. Some rooms face the Puerta del Sol.
When we booked directly with the hotel, we had asked for a quiet room with a balcony. At check-in, we were given a room that faced an internal corridor. No great view of the Puerta del Sol. When I questioned this assignment, the gentleman at the front desk explained that the quiet rooms were in the back and that he was honouring our original request.
We decided to take our chances with noise and move to a room facing Puerta del Sol. It was a good move. Once the shutters and French doors were closed, the room became an oasis of calm. In fact, the only disruptive noise we heard that night was from an English-speaking family in the corridor. They had gone out late to buy McDonald’s for dinner and the family was arguing about who would eat which burger (how do you say in Spanish, “Please remember to use your indoor voices and try the local food…”?).
Thus, we were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the plaza from our balcony as well as get a wonderful night of sleep.
Before we arrived, I had emailed the hotel to ask for help with a restaurant reservation. Even 4-5 star hotels are not always too good about this kind of request. To my delight and surprise, I received a confirmation within a day. Hotel Europa's Señor Garabán even gave me the name of his contact at the restaurant (in case there was any mistake). Such thoughtful and professional service!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony facing the Puerta del Sol!

Our trip had us arriving in Madrid for a few days, travel around the country for a few days and then back to Madrid. We had a different hotel booked for our return to Madrid, however, we loved the Hotel Europa so much, we decided to cancel our reservations and return. Although the second hotel was a more luxurious hotel, you can't beat the location (Pureto del Sol), convenience (5-15 walk to so many attractions), right by metro stop and energy of the location. The rooms were clean and roomy (we had a triple). Although we had an interior room, it was very quiet considering we were right off of Puerto del Sol. The staff was wonderful friendly and recommended so great places for us to eat. Overall, the hotel was an excellent value and experience.

We were here in october 2011, had a suite with 2 balconies, overlooking the Puerta del Sol. The room was great, with a nice bathroom, TV, and lots of light. The bed was a real 1 bed (not 2 beds pushed together). The balcony had double paned windows to keep the noise of the plaza out. The plaza is very lively with lots of people, we loved it. The location is great, right by the subway Sol, and near the Plaza Major. We found it to be a very convenient location and a great place to stay. I think it's important in this hotel to have a room with a balcony facing outside. From what I saw walking by a room that was being cleaned- if the window faces indoors (an indoor courtyard?), the room is dark like a cave. A room with a balcony here is great, with lots of light. I'd love to stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms with balconies overlooking the Puerta del Sol plaza are great. Don't get a room overlookin...

We stayed at the Hotel Europa for three nights for our anniversary. It is located in the famous Puerta Del Sol, which is within walking distance to the majority of the major attractions, 5 min walk to the Gran Via and the metro station is a two minute walk from the front door of the hotel.
The hotel has a nice reception and the staff were very helpful in giving directions and advice, their English was very good. The hotel has a restaurant with a large seating area indoor and outdoors. Our room was spacious with a lovely balcony that faced into Calle Del Carmen which was nice, when the window was closed it really blocked the sound out from outside which was good as it was very busy at night. The room had a safe and a good sized plasma tv. The bathroom was nice too, very spacious and marble all over.
I Can 100% recommend this hotel for location and price and when travelling to Madrid again this will definitely be where we will lay our hat.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing into the square
