If this is your first time in Madrid or you want to be close to the action this hotel is for you. It is on a pedestrian street near the famous Plaza del Sol (geographical center of Spain). The staff all speak English, are very courteous, and the rooms are clean. It can be a bit noisy at night if there is late night partying at the nearby bars. There is no WiFi in the hotel room but there are two free computers in the lobby for your use. Also attached to the hotel is a restaurant frequented by visitors and locals with outside tables as well.

Room Tip: Triple room a bit roomier.

Staying at Hotel Europa worked out great for our 5 days in Madrid. It's right off the Puerta del Sol and a short walk to the Metro which we used for side trips to Segovia, Toledo and Avila. We also walked to/from the Prado Museum which was handy. Breakfast was not included in our room rate but we ate at the restaurant connected with the hotel and it worked just fine.
A former trip advisor writer complained about the walk from the taxi drop-off to the hotel. It was NOT an issue for us at all. A straight shot just about a block down from where the taxi could get closest.
Rooms were clean, staff was courteous & helpful and i liked free Internet in the lobby.

Room Tip: We asked for a quiet room on the interior courtyard which was perfect!

We had a wonderful 3 night stay at this hotel. It was the 2nd time staying there for the couple we traveled with. Front desk staff was very helpful. We asked them to arrange a taxi to the Madrid address where a fellow traveler had been born 75 years ago. They saved us money by showing us a simple route to get there by public transport! The hotel is right above the metro line, very convenient from the airport if you are willing to take the metro. Our balcony overlooked Puerto del Sol, which is busy night and day - much fun to sit and watch the constant activity. But once our door was closed, it was surprisingly very quiet. The attached restaurant had nice breakfasts and we loved the tapas and sangria at their street-side seating area!! Excellent service. Simple but clean room. Close to many of the must-see sites. I'd highly recommend a stay here.

Room Tip: Do ask for a room overlooking the square!

A very good value hotel. Perfect location. Very well managed with excellent front desk service. Clean and quiet. Good water pressure and air conditioning. Felt safe and secure. Free internet in the lobby, along with all the current guide books available to browse on a table. Loved the sidewalk cafe attached to the hotel. We took the Autobus Express (2 euros) from the airport, and rolled our suitcases from the Plaza de Cibeles (preferring this to taking the metro and changing lines). Once settled in, we walked everywhere for the next 3 days. Was fully booked, so reserve ahead!

Room Tip: We requested a quiet room and were placed on the side street over the cafe. Double doors kept out t...

This hotel, right off Puerta del Sol, is close to all major sights. The staff was friendly and personable. Our room, facing the interior courtyard, was pretty quiet (we heard people in the hallway), comfortable and clean. The updated bathroom was spacious. In-room wi-fi was excellent.

While we liked Hotel Europa's central location, Puerta del Sol is jam-packed with people most of the day and night so this wouldn't be a good choice if you're looking for a quiet area away from the hustle and bustle of Madrid.

This hotel is located right in the middle of Madrid, in front of the Sol Metro Station and right in Plaza del Sol. Plaza Mayor is about 10 minute walk, same with Gran Via. It is located within walking distance from all mayor sites in Madrid. The rooms are very clean. No free wifi, but they offer two computers so you can access the internet from free. Plaza del Sol gets very crowded and noisy during the night, so make sure you request an interior room. Ours was an interior room and it was very quiet. Staff is not super friendly but they were helpful every time I asked for assistance. I would stay in this hotel again.

Room Tip: Ask for interior room if you want a quieter room.
