it is the best combination of price, location, and people, the staff was very helpful (very friendly and good looking ;) one of the guys called to the airport to dubble check everything for us)
The building looks really good, but the lobby and the main entrance is very elegant and we thought we were in a wrong place, the rooms were huge, bathrooms very clean. i was disappointed by a breakfast(4 days same food, a croissant) but can complain, it was great

Spent a night here as a lone traveller. After spending the previous night in a 4* i was a bit worried about going to a 2* but could not be more wrong. Even the view from outside a lovely old building i thought i was going to the wrong place and when you walk in the lobby its amazingly beautiful. The room was large and the double bed was really comfy. Large doors/windows opened up to outside. I had a side room where i could glimpse the square but i think if i had a front room it may have been noisey due to main road. There was a large group if about 30 school children and i was worried they would be really noisey but i didnt hear them. Really recommend especially if using train station as right opposite, plus round the corner from the hop on hop off tour.

I have stayed in this hotel twice with several years in between, and I loved it both times. The entrance way and lobby make you feel like royalty. Our room was a fair size, but the floors were beautiful hardwood and the bathroom was massive. It is an older building, so it has great charm. The balcony is the best part. Overlooking the plaza with the renia Sophia art gallery. Have a few drinks in the evening and just stand out there and watch and listen

Room Tip: Ask for non smoking, and a room up high facing the back

Staff:
The staff was very helpful. Most spoke enough english to help us get what we needed. The man who checked us in gave us a map and showed us the places of interest and a good street/plaza to eat which was "less touristy". When coming in and out we were greeted and any questions we had were answered even when they were busy with group tours or people checking in.

Facilities:
The elevator was on the smaller side but could still fit three people and two suitcases. On the fifth and first floor the hallways were clean and had no bad odor. The only noticeable problem if any were the squeaky floorboards near the cafeteria.

The Room:
We stayed in room 524 which had a balcony that overlooked the Atoche train station. It is my understanding that there are also rooms facing the back square near the entrance of Reina Sofia that are quieter but though the street was right outside you really had to listen for the street noise to hear it. The air-conditioner worked well and the bellman showed us how to operate the controls. There were two twin beds that were pushed together, a desk, chair, refrigerator, and a digital safe in the closet. The bathroom was large in comparison to the room. The tub shower was clean and had adequate pressure. The balcony was my favorite part of the room. There was just enough room to pull a chair out and sit and watch Madrid.

Location:
From the Madrid-Barajas airport we paid 25 Euros to get to the hotel and left on the AVE train to Barcelona from Atoche which is across the street. It took us 15 minutes to walk to Puerta del Sol and Plaza Mayor and 5 - 10 minutes to the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Prado. The Atoche metro station is a 25 second walk from the front door and it is a 6 minute ride to Sol.

Breakfast:
At check-in we became aware that our rate included breakfast which was nice. The cafeteria is on the first floor and when seated we were given a stale croissant and a hard bread roll. There was also bran cereal, coffee, orange juice and warm milk. After day three we decided to venture elsewhere. There are lots of good places to eat in Calle de Moratin/Calle Alameda/Calle de Atocha triangle of streets. Oh and there is a Dunkin Donuts and Mcdonalds down the street towards the metro.

Conclusion:
Overall, the hotel was pleasant enough with the breakfast being its weakest point. The location was unbeatable for us and made our goal of seeing all that we wanted very doable in the time that we were there.

Found this hotel during a search in the underground restaurant in Atocha-Renfe station. It's proximity, price and good reviews won us over. Visible when we took the escalator back up - easy!

The room has a decent view of the plaza (ours opened to the side of the building with a small, pretty balcony), a small fridge, a very nice bathroom with good water pressure, the two single beds were adequate for a night or two and the wifi worked well. The room itself was a bit small, but great for the price and for our purposes. There are great restaurant and coffee options just downstairs (especially behind the hotel in the plaza) and it is directly beside Reina Sofia.
Staff were helpful overall.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the back or front will have the best view of Atocha. Facing the back will be quieter an...

My partner and I stayed at the Mediodia before leaving for Malaga, from Atocha Station, so we wanted a hotel nearby. Well, it couldn't have been nearer without being in the station precinct! Come out of Atocha RENFE station and there it is, across the square, big name on the front.
We were surprised to find a beautiful, marbled hotel with all the facilities we would expect from a luxury hotel, but for such an incredibly reasonable price - bearing in mind it was off-peak season!
It is right next door to the Art Museum Reina Sofia and overlooks the same square; the Museo del Prado and the Royal Botanic Gardens are in the avenue at the side (left, back to re hotel) and Atocha Renfe is a metro stop.
The room overlooked the Calle de Drumen, outside the Reina Sofia museum - which is in fact a nice, open square where children played football and people milled around, chatting or sitting at one of several cafeterias, cervecerias or restaurants that have tables there.
We had a good view from the balcony, on the 4th floor, the room was not huge, but comfortable, very clean, with a spacious wardrobe and even a safe deposit box with programmable, digital combination. Wi Fi worked pretty well and the breakfast was more than adequate... they even had gluten-free Madeleines and biscuits for my Celiac partner! Staff were really lovely, helpful and mostly spoke English (except the cafeteria ladies). On the first day we arrived early, so they took in our luggage, while we went for a coffee; when I booked I asked about gluten-free food and one bloke very kindly went and checked on the packet that they did not no animal fats, as my partner is also vegetarian... How good is that?!
Now... how much do you reckon all that should have cost for two nights?
Well, it was just €69.30 a night, €138.60, or £116.78, at today's exchange rate! I call that great value in a capital city like Madrid.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough! Five stars because there aren't six!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back overlook the square and are a little quieter.

Visited the Hotel Mediodia recently for an educational visit over the space of 4 days. The location was excellent with the Atocha Metro Station based on the corner and a number of fast food outlets around the corner such as McDonalds & KFC alongside various supermarkets. The views were magnificent from the balcony rooms, looking over the square and the fountain. Highly recommonded, particualrly if you are budgeting and looking for a good location in the city centre of Madrid. Very accessible.
