“Great stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 20 April 2014 via mobile

Good location, although at first it looks a little scary from the outside...but it isn't! Close to city center and metro! Stayed here with a group of students and had ZERO problems! Wifi in rooms worked wonderfully! Our student a really enjoyed keeping in touch with friends and family! Breakfast was good!

We stayed at the Ganivet for 6 nights and overall had a really nice stay. The hotel is located right next to Puerto de Toledo and is within a walking distance from 2 metro stations of the green line - Puerto de Toledo and La Latina (the first being a bit closer). Plaza Mayor and the royal palace are within a short walk and other sights such as Plaza del Sol, Gran Via and the Prado museum are a bit of a walk. If you're looking to be closer to the museums or shops then I would recommend looking for a different location but if you're looking to explore the entire city and take some day trips (as we did) then it's definitely a great value for money. The front desk staff was helpful for the most part, the hotel was extremely clean and the rooms are a very good size in European standards. Make sure to ask for a room that is not facing Calle de Toledo because it can get a little bit noisy, even during the late hours of the night. The breakfast was great and they tried to vary the food and even served churros. Few points to be aware of : the pillows in my opinion were just horrible (my husband found them to be ok), the green metro line runs through the city center but it doesnt have a direct connection to the main train station or the Prado area and If you wish to get to the airport by train dont be fooled into taking the metro! It does have a direct pink line but it requires 2 line changes with a lot of stairs and walking through a huge crowd. Just walk 5 minutes downhill on Calle de Toledo and take the suburban DIRECT blue line from Piramides to the Airport.

Room Tip: ask for a room not facing Calle de Toledo

The hotel is fairly well decorated and clean. I love the bed, the sheets are fresh and crisp. Breakfast is amazing, there's just plenty of choices. The staff are very helpful and friendly, made me feel like a home away from home.

The hotel is a walking distance to the METRO (train station), Plaza Major and Palacio de Rea - A perfect location for a city break..

we went last week and stayed for two nights ! The signing in went very smoothly NO pressure !!The rooms are clean and adequate we had CNN in English so we could keep up with the world news ! The breakfasts were extremely well done and loads of food catering for every nationality !
The bar was part of the hotel and wine was a good choice ! we all were given tapas for every glass you ordered almost a meal in itself!!! and biscuits with the coffees ! Our bin lid fell off all the time in the room as it was broken !! FIX it please room 119!!!!
The staff were very welcoming if you want a great hotel value for money and a brilliant location think no further ! well done Gavinet !!! Im in the travel business also !!

Room Tip: our room was great at the end of the passage its quite at night dont atek the rooms above the Club...

I love this Hotel , great location for the METRO , easy walk to the Cntr ....

Clean , good service and great value .

One Tip ..... ask for the rear rooms as the front ones can be noisy from Thurs - Sat Night.. Night Club almost opposite and kids tumble out from 4.30 am - 7.00 am and can be very noisy ...

Just had a long weekend at this hotel, great location, really clean, very friendly and helpful staff, good variety for breakfast. The location was perfect and only a 10 minute walk to the centre of Madrid, and a 3 minute walk to the Metro. The Bus Tour was great, and again the nearest stop is 5 minutes from the hotel. Shops in the area were great, I bought 2 handbags for amazing prices. Loads of lovely bars and restaurants once you get by Plaza Mayor which is about a 10 minute walk. Cant fault this hotel and would definately recommend. The reception staff even printed boarding passes for no charge and when we stopped for a quick coffee we were given complimentary biscuits and cake. Nice touch!! Plus a bar up the top of the road sold beer for 1,50 euro a pint!! Bargain!!

Room Tip: Rear of the hotel has no view but very quiet as not on main road.

Very friendly, very clean, great value hotel within easy walking distance from Plaza Mayor and Palace and all historical attractions, Breakfast was the best I have experienced in a spanish hotel, maid service was outstanding. water dispensors on each floor plus free bottled water every three days, free wifi worked very well. could not fault this hotel in any way, this is a big city hotel so do not expect a balcony although windows are double glased so they keep out street noise. would recommend.
