We stayed here the first two nights of our honeymoon and had a nice corner room with a view of the plaza. The hotel was in perfect location and the room was clean and large. The free wifi is a great bonus and the front desk staff were welcoming and cheerful. This is a great bargain!

Room Tip: The corner rooms seem the be the biggest so request one if you can.

This is a great small, family-run (it appears) hotel 40 yards away from one of the main entrances to Madrid's famous Plaza Mayor. Great location and reasonable prices, especially compared to the larger, luxury hotels in the vicinity. This is a no-frills hotel, but had everything I needed for a few nights:

1) the bed was good
2) the bathroom was very nice
3) the entire room was impeccably clean, and
4) there was excellent free wi-fi in the room.

The staff at the Front Desk were pleasant and helpful, although very busy running their little hotel. I would go back again.

Room Tip: If you book through a third party, on-line group like Bookings.com or Hotels.com, I HIGHLY recommend...

We stayed here last week and would enjoy staying again. It is just a few yards from the Plaza Mayor and within walking distance of most everything else you want to see. From the train station, take the metro to Plaza del Sol or a cheap taxi ride directly to the hotel. I loved the fact you could see the bones of the original building in the fabric of the hotel.

The staff was very helpful, the breakfast tasty, the wine very affordable. They gave us some great recommendations for local eating spots. One caution: Madrid is a noisy city at night. If you can't sleep through that, bring earplugs or some thing to help you sleep.

Room Tip: Ask if they have a quiet room available.

This hotel was located right near Plaza Mayor where there are cafes, restaurants and shops nearby. On the first night, there was a live classical orchestra playing and we ran outside (jetlagged and half asleep) to find the plaza full of people eating, drinking and soaking in the atmosphere on a hot summer's night. It was a great start to a holiday in Spain. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel overall was clean and charming, not large, but had an intimate friendly feel, private and quite. The breakfast was a nice selection of food. All up it was a very nice stay and I would recommend it to anyone. It has a lift if you are not able to tackle stairs with suitcases. The staff could speak English.

I had been to Madrid twice before -- initially via my work then for a couple of overnights as part of an organised tour. So I had some knowledge of the city.
This time it was a city break with my adult daughter for 4 nights in mid March. Picked Hotel Plaza Mayor for its location, and not disappointed. Booking by hotel website went smoothly and we were expected. Two single rooms booked and they were more than adequate. Beds bigger than UK singles, bath/showerooms good and no problems with hot water shower etc. Staff helpful and we both enjoyed our relaxed breakfasts. Half expected not to have a view and this was the case --looked into a small yard but this in turn meant no noise from the road. Rember Madrid is a city that stays up late. As the cliche states Location , Location, Location is everything and this is the case with this hotel --we could and did walk to most venues, galleries.
Would I recommend this hotel or stay with them again --a definte yes.

The location is wonderful, right next to Plaza Mayor. The reception desk is staffed 24 hours a day so it is very safe. You have to leave your key with the reception desk but it was not an issue. They provided hair dryers upon request. The room was small but very clean. The bathroom was updated and quite nice. We could set the room to be as warm as we needed. We stayed first week of March. If you are in Madrid on a Sunday I would recommend going to the flea market, it's only a 5 minute walk from the hotel. The closest metro is Sol and it's about a 5 minute walk.

Location was great - can see the Plaza Mayor from the balcony and is less than 3 mins walk from the Puerto del Sol. Staff very friendly and helpful even though my Spanish is awful! Internet in the rooms which is useful. Clean and had a good character. Would definitely stay here again!
