This hotel is excellent value in the budget category. And it's important to remember that this is a budget hotel, and not 4-5 star. Adjust your expectations accordingly, and you won't be disappointed.
The location is beyond perfect--it's on a quiet charming square right next to the Plaza Mayor. You can walk everywhere. The Plaza Santa Ana, which for my tastes has the best nightlife, is about a six-minute walk. The hotel is extremely secure--there's someone at the desk at all times, and the front door is locked in the later hours--you'll be buzzed in. There is always somebody at the front desk.
My room was small, but well equpped--thought has been given to decent lighting (anyplace a person could conceivably sit, there's a light) and there's an overhead fixture. There was a small desk, too, with a light right above it. The outlets were plentiful and also strategicallly placed. These are basics, but they're important to me. There was no view, but in the dead of winter, I didn't care. There was an effort to improve the walled-in view with huge plants.
The bathrooms have been renovated, and are marble or perhaps faux-marble (at least it looks real), and, again, have good lighting. Hotel also provides such care products as shampoo, lotion, etc.
The Wi-Fi also worked perfectly, but it didin't kick in right away. If the signal doesn't work for you immediately, speak to the manager, and they'll get the signal working, by placing a phone call to the government carrier if necessary. Don't simply assume the Wi-Fi won't work.
A few things that are not so great, although they're small. I think the hotel should stop charging for the safe (I've never been charged for a safe before), and might want to invest in real water glasses in lieu of plastic cups. The hangers could also be better (too many of them are wire), but these are minor grievances, especially for the price I paid. And there is noise in the halls and from other rooms, but it was never long-lasting, and I just got used to it, and barely heard it after the first night.
I definitely recommend this hotel for any serious budget traveler. The room rates are negotiable, especially for longer stays. The staff does speak English, but if you want to practice your Spanish, they'll indulge you with courtesy.
