“Centre of Madrid, cheap as chips”
Reviewed 28 June 2012

We recently visited Madrid on a Stag Do. The best man was set the task of finding basic accommodation, central to Madrid at a reasonable price. I would have to say that on those points, this hotel ticks the boxes.

Close to the metro, fast food and bars - it is perfect for Stag parties and those trying to save a few quid when going abroad.

The hotel itself was basic, we had an incident where the mirror fell off of the wall and smashed but other than that, i would recommend it

Stayed at hotel II Castillas for 2 nights and was very pleased with everything. The location of the hotel is just perfect, right in the heart of Madrid and close to all the main attractions and the area around the hotel is lively and safe. We walked everywhere, but there are also 2 metro stations nearby (Callao & Sol) for those who don't want to walk.

Stayed with 2 friends in a triple room, and it was quite roomy with the 3 beds; with enough space for all of us to move around the room and put our bags. The room was spotless clean.
Also the staff were so nice and very helpful. The price/quality is perfect! Total value for money. Highly recommended.

We recently visited this hotel and were very pleased with our stay. It was spotlessly clean in all areas. The rooms we had were smart/traditional with modern bathrooms, spotless bedding, nice fixtures and fittings with white voile curtains, matching bed covers and draw curtains. There were no scuffs or marks to be found anywhere on the walls or paintwork. The breakfast was varied and there was something for everyone. All the staff were very pleasant, friendly and helpful, especially the young barman who was working the night of the Spain v Italy Euro 2012 game, it was his first day and he was lovely. The hotel is just off one of the main streets, Grande Via, a very good central location. We would definately recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: the room our daughter and son in law had was on a corner, therefore more spacious with more windows

We stayed at hotel II Castillas in January 2012. The location is perfect in the heart of Peurto Del Sol and within walking distance to El Prado. It's clean and the breakfast is basic but good. I would certainly recommend it.

Room Tip: Room at a higher floor is recommended to avoid next door nightclub noise.

Simply a hotel that works as a hotel should. Staff courteous and helpful, rooms clean and spacious, almost excessively abundant breakfast. And right in the centre. What more could you want?

This place was so centrally located, we were smack in the middle of all the action. If you like being in the thick of the city you're visiting, without paying big bucks to be there, then you absolutely must check into Castillas. The service was fantastic, everyone either spoke English or tried extremely hard to help out whatever way they could. We were in a bit of a frenzy and turned up on a Thursday with our luggage and nothing booked. No rooms were available for us that night, but they kindly offered a discount rate for Friday - even though they really didn't have to. It might not be the fanciest of facilities, but it's clean, well kept and is charming enough without all the unnecessary 5 star frills.

This place is like a clean SUPER8 or Motel6.
Very very basic but clean and sufficient hotel in the heart of Madrid. If you want to stay in the Puerto Del Sol area on a budget, this is likely the best choice. Of course Madrid has far better hotels, but it will cost you more. The staff are helpful, but the hotel really has nothing more than clean rooms, with the most basic furniture and amenities. I wasn't too pleased with the state of linens, towels, and worn blankets. Basically it’s a place to lay down your head at night, I would not want to hang out in these rooms too long – they are too stale and uninteresting, and ours had barely any light. Our bath/shower was fine, with great water pressure, except for the half-way glass barrier that is typical of some European tubs, and holds no water in while you shower. However, our other parties in our group had a shower stand in which no person even slightly overweight would easily fit – much in the manner of a tight cruise ship shower stall. The wood panels at the floor of this stall expanded and shrunk with water and temperature changes, causing strange noises. I hate to think what could be growing under that wood. Breakfast was good, many choices, with the exception of coffee, which was dismal as per usual for Spanish 2 to 3 star hotels --utilizing a machine to dispense something approaching very weak brown water. Our room looked into a courtyard which was actually a series of private apartments, with clothes lines running across the courtyard. The residents would speak from window to window and you would hear the conversations at random times. Depending on your perspective you could find being party to these conversations charming, or annoying. The place doesn’t have much soul, but is good value for the price and certainly a great central location.
