This hotel is very close the airport and with a free shuttle service worked well. The room we booked for a family of 5 was massive and the free use of the laptop in the room was brilliant for planning a trip out.

However...

We had no hot water for the first night of the stay and after speaking to reception about this nothing was sorted out! As you can imagine this was not good for young kids after a long flight!

The advertised pool was shut for the season and the gymnasium consisted of one running machine that didn't work, an exercise poster, a sauna that wasn't switched on and a shower that didn't work all of this was situated next to an underground car park which freaked the wife and kids out!

Back to the room... As I said was massive and spacious but had no kettle, coffee or tea available which was a shame as you had to keep going to to reception to get coffee and warm milk up for little people.

Rather oddly the bathroom door in the room was opaque apart from the bit in the middle which allowed everyone to see you sitting on the toilet!

We did complain about the water and had ten euros taken off the price but would of preferred hot water for the kids!

Hotel is very central to Peurta del Sol. If you want a quiet nights sleep book a room overlooking the Courtyard as the front of the hotel faces a nightclub and the noise goes on all night till 6 a.m. It would be nice also if they had a nice lounge where one could sit in the evenings and perhaps have a coffee or a glass of wine,

Staff were very helpful., The rooms are basic and I feel it would be better if the bathroom was behind a wall and a wooden door and not made of glass as they are. Not very private!!
All in all a pleasant stay.

Loved Madrid but like every one city it is expensive.

Stayed here for 3 nights. The staff are helpful and friendly. It is close to a main shopping street - high end designer and zara! Only 10 mins walk to the Bernabau and the main park in Madrid. Therooms are small but not claustrophobic, ours over looked a coutyard to the rear. It was nice and quiet.

Stayed here for a few nights while in Madrid. Nice rooms. A bit small but they were clean and well kept. The bed was comfortable not like sleeping on boards like some hotels in Spain can be. The staff was Not overly friendly but helpful. This is a great location for dining and shopping and also only a few blocks from the Palace. Would definitely stay here again.

I think the location is the greatest advantage of the hotel: at one end of the street you have Puerta del Sol, at the other the Teatro Real and Royal Palace. Easy access to subway (with the big museums only two stations away), easy access on foot to a lot of places to visit. El Corte Ingles, FNAC plus many shops are within walking distance (5 minutes or less). And you can get to Casa Patas (great place!) in 15 - 20 minutes, also on foot.
On the other hand, you may like it less if you need a quiet place for sleeping, because Calle Arenal, especially in the weekend, can be really noisy with all the people strolling, going to bars and clubs.
What you need to keep in mind is that there are two Petit Palace hotels on Calle Arenal. If if come from Sol, first one is Petit Palace Puerta del Sol, the second one is Petit Palace Arenal (the one this review is about). Both hotels are on right side so it's easy to mistake one for the other.
The people at the reception were friendly, the room was welcoming (with chocolate candies gift :)). It may not be much, but you can see the people are making an effort so you can feel welcome.
The breakfast also is great, with lots of choices of food.
I'm giving only "good" to room quality for two reasons: slow internet connection (unexpected for a hotel called High Tech) and a bathroom looking a bit old (but very clean). Other than this, the room was clean and spacious.

The hotel is nothing spectacular, but good value for money and can be recommended mostly because of its excellent location close to "everything". We did not use the metro after we arrived and that says a lot as we did go around quite a bit and saw a lot.
Breakfast was nothing fancy, but good enough. Small cramped area where the breakfast was eaten.
The elevator only worked so-so. People often gave up and walked the 4-5 floors.
Some annoying procedure with passwords for wifi, but when connected it was working well.
