Stayed for one night before returning home after a holiday in Spain. We wanted a place near Parque del Retiro and this hotel attracted us by the late check out (15:00) rate. On arrival the reception staff was a bit grumpy. Then we found out that we needed to climb a stair to reach the lift. The room looked as it were still in the 1950s. Then we discovered WiFi was not free. The bathroom was ok, outdated but clean. The worst part was the air conditioning. The room had two separate areas, each with a digital A/C control. The room was too hot while the outside temperature was close to 6º C. However we tried to set a comfortable temperature, the air coming from the vents in both sides of the room kept flowing hot. We could not open the window as it faced an interior area Overall, except for the location and low price, I found this hotel under performing, particularly compared with the other places we stayed in that visit.

We had a visit to Madrid in March and stayed in the Gran Hotel Velazquez, it is in a very good location close to all the shopping on Serrano.

The room we had was great it had a separate room with a sofa and desk ideal if you have to work I think it was called a Junior Suite, large bathroom with shower over the bath and twin sinks.

Great choice at breakfast all the usual hot and cold choices.

The hotel also had a great Gin Bar great at the end of the day to relax and unwind, I would stay here again on my next visit to Madrid.

No wi-fi in the rooms was a bummer and I couldn't even get my computer to connect in the lobby. TV is small and outdated and i didn't even turn it on since my remote didn't work. The place was clean and the location was pretty good, but not much to set it apart from other places in Madrid.

Got very good deal for weekend in Madrid (back today 4/2/13) so was not cross with fading flower displays which looked like bunches of wilting celery, stained wallpaper around window in room, a broken tap in the Ladies and a woodlouse frozen in my icecube in my Campari! If this was all going on hand in hand with top prices, I would have been apoplectic..the Gin Club bar was great fun, loved the row of bar stools outside on the street with shelf to perch a beer whilst people watching inside the bar through the window and out.. Very comfortable bed in large suite facing street. Beware of noisy neighbours as sound proofing not great. We were woken at 4:30am by our neighbours seemingly moving every piece of furniture around and yelling whilst doing so. Went on for an hour and we eventually rang Reception and it did stop after our call. Reception apologetic next morning...overall, all acceptable if a good deal secured. Hadn't been prepared at all for levels of extreme begging on the road outside thus hotel; this country is clearly on it's knees and the city on this trip felt preoccupied, desperate and depressed. Go and cheer up by having tapas and a sherry or two in the fabulous Mercado de San Miguel. Fantastic!

This hotel is a small nice hotel, good service, the rooms are confortable and close to every place , Located in a very nice neighborhood. And the price is also good. The stuff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were very clean and provided all the necessary materials (shampoo, soap, batj gel, etc). I would go back to the same hotel again.
We had breakfast and it was excellent too. Excellent staff

Stayed here for a week-end, I have to say the hotel offers fantastic value, got a nice suite, in a fantatic location of Madrid. The atmosphere at the bar that forms part was great.

On the negative side the hotel though renewed still has certain things that make it feel a bit run-down, smelly pipes the most significant one. Though all-in-all if you are looking for a budget stay around the Salamanca neighborhood I don't think this hotel can be beat. Specially if doing business, the suites are a nice space where to work from, though I didn't try the internet speed this trip.

This hotel is a bit dated, but not without charm. My room was fairly standard, rather small, no desk to work at, hard mattresses, but a decent bathroom. Internet is unreliable. The staff both friendly and helpful, if in broken English. Breakfast was really good and the bar is nice. The hotel is located in an upscale part of central Madrid (Salamanca), within walking distance to the Retiro. A great number of expensive shops in the area, and some good restaurants, but you will want to move to other parts of town for the fun and the nightlife.
