Neighbourhood: Huertas
Description: "With its traditional zinc-top bar and wall tiles, this much-loved Castizo taberna is among the very best Madrileño eating spots for enjoying cocido. The chef even includes a junior version (cocido pequeño) on his menú infantil. The great seafood specialties here are bacalao pil pil (Basque cod in a spicy green sauce) and besugo la madrileño besugo (or sea bream), being the most highly esteemed fish in the capital due to its exquisite flavor. Other homemade dishes include sopa de fideos (noodle soup) and huesos de tuétano (marrow bone). The dining area, set back beside pillars from the tapas bar, is quiet and relaxing, and the service is friendly." -Zagat

We were in fact dining in the Taberna next door to La Daniela when we discovered this wonderful place...we went for breakfast, lunch or dinner every single day we were in Madrid after that (obviously this is not the only place we went, only that we went daily).
Huevos Estrellados are fabulous, delicious! Arroz con Leche is the best I have tried in my whole life! At lunch it can be crowded and it does close early for Madrid: around 10 pm.
We will definitely go back as many times as we can the many times we will return to Madrid!

Found this restaurant behind our hotel [Westin Palace] on our first night in Madrid. It was so good that we ate there for the next three nights. The food is freshly prepared and excellent value. The staff are very helpful and cannot do enough to guide you through the menu. I would certainly go back there when next in Madrid

A real find. A small place with a tight fit, but some of the best food I had in Spanish. Well worth a trip.

Starving and it was late for lunch when I stumbled upon this place. The service was far too brisk to be considered friendly, though one waitress did smile at me once. Had croqueta de jamon and patatas bravas and they were far from the best versions of these I've eaten. The value wasn't all that good either. The locals seem to love it and flock there in droves. Perhaps they're not keen on serving travellers?

We ate here on only our second night in Madrid due to a Rick Steve's recommendation. We were a little worried that for that reason it might be very touristy but it wasn't. We sat at the bar, the staff were very helpful, they gave us good, well sized free tapas with our drinks and during the evening we ordered several things to share all of which were freshly prepared, well presented and tasty. Sitting at the bar you can see some of the food being prepared, everything was spotlessly clean, there are tables if you prefer. They have an English translation of their menu which was very helpful.
