“A gem!”
Reviewed 12 August 2013 via mobile

Booked this hotel based on the reviews on T.A and wasn't disappointed. We has a suite and it was very spacious. The hotel and room was spotless, and still felt new. The room was minimalist and white, comfortable bed and a great bathroom with double sinks and a fantastic shower. Our room didn't have a view and looked into an internal light well area, so if you need a view out ask for a room at the front of the hotel. Breakfast was basic but the quality of what was there was excellent, and with so much great food in Madrid who needs a huge breakfast!! The coffee machine was a real bonus and did great coffee. Location of hotel is fine if you are happy to walk a bit or use the metro. We felt safe in the area - there are lots of people around. Supermarket a couple of blocks away was handy. The staff at the hotel are fantastic - everyone is friendly and always willing to help. You would never guess this is only a 2 star hotel - it seriously should be more! Thanks team, we had a great 3 nights!

I recently spent 3 nights at this hotel, with my 3 teenage sons, and loved it. Every single staff member that we dealt with was great. Very friendly and incredibly helpful. There was a lovely girl on the Front Desk (I am sorry I didn't ask her name) during the day and she marked everything on a map that was within walking distance and instructions on how to get there. One of my sons was catching a train from Atocha Station to another part of Spain, (which I had mentioned to her on the previous day) and she took it upon herself to phone the station to see if there were any delays after the terrible train accident in the Northern part of Spain. The accomodation itself was great. Fantastic shower, comfortable beds, efficient airconditioning and it was very clean. There is free Wifi and breakfast is good for a reasonable price with a great coffee machine that is available 24 hours. The area was fine. We felt safe and enjoyed the local feel. There are good restaurants and a Carrefour nearby which is very convenient. I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Madrid who wants a comfortable hotel that is great value and within walking distance of many attractions.

I can see why this rates highly on tripadvisor- the staff are excellent, they truly go above and beyond, and their restaurant recommendations were spot on and some of the best food we've had in Spain. However, location.... Not the best, not very close to the attractions . As a woman walking home at night I did not feel safe. 15 min walk from the Main train station. Again though, staff made the stay.

Dear Guest,
We appreciate a lot your time to review the Artrip Hotel.
Thanks for your comments about the friendliness of our Staff, we will transfer their positive comments to all our Team.
About the location, into the district centre of Madrid, 10´ to 15´walking to everywhere. It´s a bohemian and multicultural neighborhood, and we know it´s not the most luxury (the same in every big city) area in Madrid, but it is 100% safe, and many people like to feel the "real" and different ambient of Lavapiés.

Hope to see you soon.

Just spent 3 nights at hotel Artrip. The staff were lovely and so helpful especially Sara who gave us great suggestions for places to visit. Our room was really clean and fresh and the shower was awesome!!
The hotel is within walking distance of many of the major attractions and there are a few lovely bars and restaurants close by.
Would definitely go back to hotel artrip.

Room Tip: We had a room for 3 but only 2 of us were able to travel. It would have been a squeeze with 3. Our r...

This 2 star hotel is just 1 year old and still feels very clean and fresh. The staff could not have been more helpful. Although the rooms are not totally soundproof, as claimed, they are not noisy and we heard no noise from the street. The location is OK, but no more than that and is about a 12 minute walk from Atocha RENFE Station and 4 minutes from Lava Pies Metro. Reina Sofia Museum is near and the nearest stop for the sightseeing bus is about 15 minutes away. Be careful if you take a taxi from Atocha Station in that you must make sure the meter is ON! The Hotel will get you a reputable one if needed for further journeys.

Turning right out of the hotel and walking up Calle Ave Maria brings you to "little India" and a vast choice of Indian restaurants. Our dinner was very good there. The Hotel only offers continental breakfast for food and the quantity and quality is high. The price is reasonable. Tea and coffee making facilities are available gratis 24/7. Free WIFI is available in all areas of the Hotel and there is a free WIFI lap top near reception for those without computing capabilities. The background music was English speaking from the 60's which is worth 10 bonus points for me!

All in all we enjoyed our stay very much and would definitely return if visiting Madrid again.

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate his 40th birthday in march and we still often talk about this very special hotel.
I adore everything about the Artrip and their family restaurant. The rooms, the staff, the breakfast...all outstanding.
We cannot wait to return!
Thank you all.

The hotel is very, very nice finished; modern, fresh, clean. The owner and staff could not be more competent or welcoming or helpful. The hotel is situated in a safe, but not prosperous, neighborhood on the south side of Madrid, a five to seven minute walk to the Reina Sofia and Atocha train station. The property is a great value, largely due to its location. It is very close to a metro stop and a perhaps 15 minute walk to the Plaza Mayor. If you would be happy staying in a Madrid neighborhood where actual Madrilenos live, that's a bit bohemian and down at its heels, you will love this place. I'd recommend the property highly. Save money on lodging and spend more money on food and wine and sightseeing. Again, the owner and staff are outstanding.
