“Cool fun venue - food needs a bit more effort”
Reviewed 28 May 2014 via mobile

Loved this place as a venue - cool, fun with great music and ambience

But they need to work on the food - a few too many dishes whereby the description sounded tantalizing but the end result was OK - perhaps they need to source their ingredients better? Or maybe a little bit more love from the kitchen?

I would go back - but I would hope they've improved here

They were especially helpful for coeliacs - highly recommended if you are gluten-unfriendly

“Looks can be deceiving”
Reviewed 22 January 2014

We booked a table for six for our friend's 40th birthday, and were excited to try a new restaurant. The decor is hip and cool, and we settled into a cozy booth.

We decided to start with cocktails, which we all found overpriced for Madrid. After some time the drinks started coming two by two, with long waits in between. When the waiter placed what looked an awful lot like my whiskey sour in front of someone else, she asked if it was her gimlet. The waiter said yes, then a couple minutes later returned to the table and, without saying a word, picked up the drink and replaced it with the actual gimlet, placing the sour on the counter behind us. I then watched him take a pause, pick up the whiskey sour again and place it in front of me.

Several of the dishes had cryptic names, and no descriptions, so we asked several questions about the menu. These were met with eye rolls, or unhelpful answers like: "It's in a sauce". Umm, ok, what kind of sauce? While we waited nearly forty minutes for our food, we had two bottles of wine. The first bottle was unanimously very poor. When we said it wasn't nice and asked the waiter for a recommendation, he ignored our comment about the previous bottle and said, 'I can recommend the house wine'.

Finally our food started coming out, with another waitress pitching in. Our whole table started laughing when we saw our food. Half of us had dishes that looked like airplane food, with absolutely no garnish or presentation of any kind, just some fish dumped in sauce. The other half had completely over-the-top flourishes of various sauces and textures. We couldn't believe they'd come out of the same kitchen. Again, a plate was set before the person sitting next to me. Just as she started to dig in, the waitress swooped in and picked it up, setting it on the counter. A few minutes passed and she brought a new dish for my neighbor, and then placed the dish that had been sitting out in front of me.

Portion sizes were very small, presentation was awful, service was slow and inept, or just surly. It might be a great place to meet for a drink, but the dinner experience was wholly disappointing.

“Looks aren't everything”
Reviewed 12 January 2014

We checked out this place for cocktails even though we were a bit unsure given the vast diversity of opinions in this site... as many 5 starts as 2 stars. As you can see, in my opinion this is a 2 stars, and not a 1 on account of the interior design and decor, which is the only saving grace about this place.

Can't say as the cocktails were overpriced, average would be it for that part of the city and that type of establishment, however the quality was on the poor side, most especially the Cosmopolitan, and the service on the bad side. On the spilled side, too. How does one serve a cocktail such as a Cosmo? One brings the cups and the cocktail shaker on a tray, and pours in front of the guests at the table. Not so, here the cups were carried by hand, from the bar to the table, and of course both spilled.

We got some jellies as munchies but requested something salty, peanuts or whatever. We got them, but they could as well have said they were out of salty munchies, because everything was so stale it was probably illegal.

Upon paying, we got a table service charge of 2 euro per person, almost 3 USD. It's fine if that's their policy, but that makes only some sense for lunch or dinner. I mean, we sat for cocktails late afternoon, and the only effort that meant for servers was to hand carry our drinks from the bar to the table -- we didn't even get any paper napkins ...

Very poor impression, these places that open up with all the looks in the world but no substance aren't worth any time or money.

“Refuge on a rainy day!”
Reviewed 4 January 2014

We were in Madrid and ventured out on a cold rainy New Year's Day. We literally ducked in out of the rain and glad we did! The service was excellent surpassed only by the food! They were very attentive and as is typical of Spain, we were not rushed through our meal. They have an excellent wine list. The chef provided us with a complimentary soup traditionally served on New Year's Day. It was an awesome meal and experience! We recommend it without reservation.

“Gave it a second chance...”
Reviewed 3 January 2014

I think Punk Bach and I are through after a very short courtship. Out first rendez-vous last month ended with my wanting more. The dėcor is wonderful - tasteful with a hint of ecclectic. The steak (with foie gras and Port sauce) was exquisite -superbly tender. I returned with my wife yesterday and left somewhat disappointed. The service, on par with most Spanish establishments, comes without a smile. The lobster taglietelle was delicious but the veal cordon-bleu was over-fried and the meat was rather sinewy. Interestingly, we walked in just as a regular was informing the Maitre D' that his meat had been a bit overdone. Dessert was uninspiring (three chocolate mousse) but the coffee was really tasty. If in a bind and in that neighborhood, I might go back to see if we might rekindle the relationship.
