We spent 3 nights at Only You in December while embarking on a trip around Spain.
As soon as we walked through the door the ambiance swept us off our feet. The front desk staff were unable to find our reservation at the time of checking in, but they did make us feel welcome while correcting it, allowing us to use the wifi and offering us drinks. Following a wait of about 20 minutes Hector escorted us to our room.
The room was quite small but warm (it was December), quiet and beautifully decorated. There was a tiny balcony facing out to the street and the theatre across the street. The bathroom (consisting of a toilet and large shower, the sink was in an alcove next to the bed) was small, but the shower had a nice rain shower head. I noticed that the pipes used to hang the towels were also heated.
The wifi was generally a little slow and we struggled to get a good connection from our phones. However the smart television in the room compensated for this as the connection was excellent and when using the television we found ourselves watching You Tube rather than the television channels.
We visited the restaurant for breakfast twice, and it was certainly the best breakfast we had during our whole stay in Spain. The menu was quite wide and the friendly staff constantly reminded us that we were welcome to have anything that we wanted from the menu at any time.
The hotel was a very short walk from Calle Alcala and the Gran Via, therefore the location could not have been any more central. We found that most of Madrid’s major tourist sites from the Prado museum to Plaza Mayor to the Royal Palace (albeit a slightly longer walk) were a pleasant walking distance. Even Atocha train station was walking distance.
The hotel markets itself as a lifestyle choice rather than a simple accommodation choice. Given the exquisite decor (every room in the building is a photo opportunity waiting to happen), the happening bar and lounge and the supremely confident and stylish staff (who all seem to speak flawless English), the hotel is perhaps a little too pretentious for my taste (or maybe I am just not sophisticated enough to be a worthy guest) but that would not stop me from visiting Only You Hotel again the next time I visit Madrid
