this place is in a prime location but quiet enough. literally a hop and a skip from the center of Madrid or plaza del sol without the loud noise. it's on a relatively quiet plaza del Carmen although coming during holy week: everything seems louder in Madrid. Now I must admit that I love keeping the windows open wherever I travel : even in the center of chaotic rome. the noise of the city actually lulls me to sleep so this place was fine even with the balcony doors open.

if you can, try to request a room with the balcony. of course, it's not always possible. the plaza below is beautiful. the room was spotless. the bathroom was enormous for European standards. it's on the 4th floor (remember that the ground floor is "0" in Europe). there is a lift which is handy with the luggage but we often took the stairs the rest of the time we were there: it's a beautiful staircase and a great exercise after eating so much food in that city.

Javier was awesome. I don't know how many little emails I sent beforehand asking for the littlest things, and he was always so prompt and courteous. everyone was professional there. and the price was perfect as well. they were very helpful and always asked if they could help us with anything. i had been to madrid before so there wasn't many things that we needed. I absolutely can't think of any complaints and I usually have something!

Mercado de San Miguel is close by. tapas & wine galore there. la mallorquina (an established bakery) is even closer. there is a convent near the Mercado where the nuns sell dulces or sweets. their lemon flavored cookies were very good.

little tips: the prado is free after 6 pm. the naval museum nearby is also free and with less people. and although I like the prado, I've always had a soft hear for the thyssen museum. it's smaller and seem to be as overrun with tourists. Madrid has a great selection of seafood for a land locked city. i'm a sucker for the anchovies which is as delicious as the ones from the seaside villages of Italy.

The hotel has a great location, near Puerta del Sol, restaurants, metro stations. Our room had a nice size, with comfortable beds and a clean toilet.
Although it's located on a small quite plaza, Madrid is alive even in the late hours, so there could be a bit of noise during the night, but it did not bother us. One can close the balcony door as the room can be air conditioned. The room has wifi and a TV and we did not hear any noise from neighboring rooms. It was safe to leave valuables in the room.
The staff are really friendly, helpful, and can comfortably communicate in English.
The hotel is great value and we highly recommend it for any sort of trip!

Enjoyed a wonderful stay at Hostal Acapulco. Javier was hugely helpful and responsive during on-line booking, even more helpful with directions on how to get there from the train station. Our room had a small balcony overlooking Plaza Carmen. There was a refrigerator, and beverages could be purchased at the front desk for a reasonable price. And, location could not be beat - a couple blocks from Puerto del Sol, yet on a quiet square, lots of restaurants nearby. Would definitely stay here again.

Hostal Acapulco is in the central area, near the three big museums (Prado, Thyssen, Reina Sofia), plenty of restaurants, and close to metro stations. It's on the fourth floor of a building, with an elevator. Our window and balcony looked over a square. The host, Javier, was very helpful in making the reservation and giving us directions on how to arrive, emailing us a metro map before hand and explaining the various options of getting into the city from the airport. This is a small family-run hotel and we felt perfectly safe leaving our valuables in our room. Our room consisted of two twin beds, a TV, desk, and chair, with a double door opening to the balcony. We enjoyed it very much and recommend it as a clean, safe, no-frills hotel.

Room Tip: Our room faced the street (we wanted a balcony) so there was some noise of talking below. I believe...

Lovely hostal on a quiet street just a few minutes walk from Puerto del Sol. Our room was a nice size, very clean and comfortable. The staff are excellent, very helpful and friendly. Javier was extremely helpful when we made our reservation, with directions and advice. We felt very welcomed and will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Madrid.

Hostal Acapulco is the perfect inexpensive place to stay in Madrid. First, the staff are helpful. They really want you to have an exceptional stay in their hostal and their city. Next, it's a perfect location. It's centrally located, but on a very quiet little plaza just seconds away from the Sol and Gran Villa. Additionally, it's clean with daily maid service. The rooms have been thoughtfully decorated. I can't write enough praises about this very special place, and I am afraid if I do, I won't get a reservation when I need one!

I agree with another reviewer that Javier was very responsive in answering my questions via e-mail. At the hostal, both Javier and the young lady behind the desk (my apology for forgetting her name-was it Ana?) were very helpful; especially when we had trouble finding the car rental agency. Very good location. The Prado is probably a 20-30 minute walk. The hostal is off the Gran Via-a major avenue for shopping. If you would like a break from tapas, there's Artemisa- a great little vegetarian restaurant on the next street over at Tres Cruces 4.
To conclude, Hostal Acapulco is a great hotel for families travelling on a budget.
