“city hotel in madrid”
Reviewed 3 July 2011

stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. very clean and modern rooms. ask for a room with direction not to the main road. rooms are with a balcony for a quick smoke. ;)
perfectly for a weekend-trip or business trip to madrid. you can go nearly everywhere by food. great bars and restaurants are around the corner.
if you arrive late, check out the restaurant of the hotel => good sushi.
the lounge attracts a lot of locals in the evening and the terrace is great to spend some hours - doesn't matter which time of the day (great view over the city).

not a cheap hotel but fair prices. very friendly staff.

If you're planning a trip to Madrid, stay here! I loved this hotel. We had a 'standard' room on the third floor (302), but it was really spacious and had a sofa and its own little balcony. I'd been a bit worried about noise after reading other reviews, but it wasn't a problem - our room overlooked a side street rather than Gran Via itself, we kept the window shut at night, had the air-con on and I slept really well in the big comfy bed.

De Las Letras is just a stones throw from the Chueca barrio with some fabulous eating and drinking options - try Bristol Bar if you're a a gin fan (the best G&T ever!) and El Original for lovely 'modern' Spanish food. The hotel's own roof-top bar is a must too - sunny and chilled in the afternoon and buzzy at night.

The hotel is very nice although the rooms are not large. It's a nice mix of modern and old design features from the original building.

Our room featured a balcony and very large bathroom.

The staff is an 11/10. They were helpful, friendly and multilingual. The front desk went to extraordinary lengths to ship a lost passport that one our group left in the room after a long night. They even called to the hotel where it was being shipped to explain the situation before we arrived.

Great location in a hip area, eat at El Mercado de la Reina across the street and grab a drink at Cocktails del Diego a block away.

I stayed here for three nights with my girlfriend while visiting Madrid. The hotel is right on the Gran Villa in the heart of it all. Shopping galore is right outside the front door and only a few blocks to the East. The Retiro park is also only a few blocks directly west of the hotel, about a five to ten minute walk. The hotel itself was beautiful and had a gorgeous terrace with a little bar and food. The room was quite large and had an amazing balcony which overlooked the Gran Villa. The bathroom was also good size with a large tub and shower and double sinks. The internet was a bit spotty but they informed us that there are pockets of the hotel which have trouble picking up the wifi. Fortunately after a few tries we got ours to work just fine. It was a bit loud with traffic but we didn't mind a bit as the views and the hotel itself were just gorgeous. If quiet is want you want I'd suggest something a few blocks North or South of this location as there are some beautiful little neighborhoods very close by. If you want to be in the heart of it all and have everything right outside your front door then De Las Letras is an excellent choice. Overall, we had a great stay.

My husband and I wanted a mid-priced hotel in a renovated historic building. I searched for weeks before finding Hotel de las Letras. Other hotels similarly meeting the criteria did not look as handsome. We were pleased when we arrived: the staff were helpful, the room was clean, and location was ideal.

Within in walking distance were bus and metro stations, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, Chueca, Museo de Prado, parks, and countless restaurants, bars, and cafes. And, comparing the local hotels and hostels in person convinced us that we'd chosen well.

Regarding the noise levels from the street: There is almost no way to avoid it in this perfectly central location. The Madrilenos are up late at night Tuesday through Saturday. It is part of their charm so we chose to have the windows open quite a bit. There was still a lot of noise even though we were on the 5th floor. However, the hotel has installed near sound-proof windows and we avoided much of the noise when we wanted to.

Finally, the roof-top bar was an added bonus. It was charming and lively. Many of the guests took full advantage. It was perfect for a Springtime holiday.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Madrid. It's a great value and good location. The staff was extra friendly and recommended a nearby fantastic, local, tapa bar which we loved and went back to several times. We were 3 people in a room and the room was a good size.

Stylish and understated boutique hotel perfectly situated in Madrid. Efficient and genuine service from the front desk. Everything in the room worked well. Full array of international TV stations and working wifi. The restaurant serves delicious meals and the most unusual bread but the pièce de résistance was the stylish roof garden where many a happy afternoon was spent reading and sipping tasty cocktails.

If you want a good hotel close to Cheuca and the heart of Madrid then this is the place to stay.

Room Tip: Suites have their own spa bath - something to try
