“Fantastic hotel at a great price”
Reviewed 7 May 2012

Really impressed - good design, great location, nice rooms, good bathrooms, fantastic bar and all at a very reasonable price. Would definitely go back. Only downsides were that the room was a little warm and the breakfast was pretty lame, but there's plenty of places on your doorstep to go for food

I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. The location was perfect. We were a block from the subway and walking distance to the Prado Museum and Retiro Park. We were able to walk to several central neighborhoods, including Cheuca and Malasana, for great meals. Our group enjoyed meeting down in the hotel's lounge for a drink or two to plan our evening. It had a great vibe. Overall service was great.

As we expected based on the hotel recommendation, the rooms were small.

Room Tip: We stayed there a couple times during our 10 day trip. We had two different sized rooms -- one had...

I booked this boutique hotel through Tablethotels.com as it looked nice and seemed to present great value for money. It certainly did! Letras is perfectly located on the less crowded end of Gran Via. My husband and I took the bus from the airport and it was an easy stroll from the Plaza de Cibeles stop (even with luggage). Everything is walking distance: the museum triangle, Retiro Park, Salamanca, Chueca and Sol. Location aside, the decor and service were both very good. The public spaces are well-designed (not so hip that it hurts) and the prices seem pretty fair, making it a great place to have a cortado or a cocktail. The room we got was very spacious and had a glass-encased balcony offering a fantastic view. We regretted moving hotels later that week and decided that we would book Letras again the next time we're in Madrid.

Room Tip: I think we got the corner suite (having been upgraded courtesy of Tablet Plus) and it's definite...

We loved this hotel! The location, right on one of Madrid's main streets, was close to all the main attractions, many bars and restaurants, and the main squares/piazas. In addition, transportation to anywhere in Spain was close at hand. Even the "hop-on/hop-off" tourist bus stopped across the street. Our room overlooked the main street - Gran Via - and had a small balcony so we could open the large windows and watch the world go by. The room was modern, bright and comfortable. The hotel had a modern bar and restaurant, It was pricey but good. We found the service and staff went out of their way to greet us and answer our questions. We felt overall that we got value for our money at this hotel. We would definitely rebook this hotel.

Room Tip: We liked our room which overlooked the main street. Some people may want the back of the hotel to a...

If you want to be centrally located in the city --- this hotel cannot be beat. It is right in the middle of everything. You can walk to every neighborhood and attraction. We were there for 5 days and did not need the metro ever. However, that said, it is right in the middle of everything on a very busy commercial street, e.g. chain stores, fast food, and a few prostitutes. So, if you are looking for a pretty street with trees and parks for peaceful walks, this is not the place for you.

The hotel itself is great. A design hotel. Old building that has received a very nice renovation. So, you get nice historical touches but the place does not feel old or crusty. Very cool lobby/lounge that was great for coffee in the morning and drinks at night, with huge windows facing the street. Great for people watching. Seemed to be a destination for folks, but was never wild or super noisy.

Our room was great. We were upgraded to a room with a terrace. The room was spacious and clean. Had a very calming feel with high ceilings, muted colors, and french doors/windows. The bathroom was also spacious and accessed from the vestibule of the room, so it was separate from the bedroom. Nice products in the bathroom. The closet space was a bit tight for 2 people on a long trip.

One item to note -- this is definitely a "design" hotel, but it is not quite a "luxury" hotel. While the place looks very good, the place is a bit rough around the edges in spots (chipped furniture, sloppy tilework in bathroom, mediocre linens).

Overall, this hotel was a wonderful, unique place to stay in Madrid.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side of the hotel to avoid the street noise of Gran Via if you like a qui...

My husband and I stayed two nights at this hotel during our recent trip to Madrid and absolutely loved it! The rooms are large and have comfortable beds. The rooms definitely have character, updated and modern but still have some old charm to them. The location was fabulous, we were able to walk to most things that we wanted to do. If we couldn't walk, Metro stop was just a couple of blocks away. The breakfast buffet was GREAT...fresh fruit, cheeses & fresh squeezed orange juice among other things. We would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone traveling to Madrid!
